Newbie Story With an answer
My story really started last year, my son Pat who was 10 at the time, myself and a good friend decided to go SALMON FISHING.
This was to be his first trip in a boat with someone who knew what they were doing. I'm pretty much a once in a while boater. Work, home and hunting are my pleasures. (not in that order..) I have taken him out for sturgeon around tongue point with only a few shakers ever caught. Anyway we got the chance to fish Nehalem Bay last year about this time of year, after a short time I heard Pat say that he thought he had a bite. Sure enough the tip of his pole kept bouncing in and out of the water. He set the hook like he has been doing it for years and fought the fish well. After about ten minutes, in the net slides a 15lb chinook. Hooked for life, and I now have a new fishing partner. We ended the day with myself landing a 25lb and a 40lb fish. Guess I'm hooked for life also! Like I said that was last year about this time, and we just got back from making the same trip again this year. I don't now what or why but I got a 12 and then a 30. I handed the pole over to Pat on the 30, he fought it well but had a few problems and told me to finish it off...
My biggest concern now is how to explain to him that those days are just the exeption and not the norm.
