Default Eastern Washington Wildfire

This fire started last Friday, here is what the latest info is:
37,000 acres burned, 20% contained
1400 firefighters, 5 aircraft
200 buildings lost and 20 fulltime homes

This is burning in the Tucannon National Forest, and I heard but not sure if it's true, that it has crossed the line into Oregon and is in the Umatilla National Forest.

From when it started it grew to 30,000 acres in 12 hours.

I took this pic from Walla Walla, so it is probably at least 40 miles away.

How did that one start? Was it the one that started by the malfunction on the combine?

well to clear up a few things.....
this fire is now close pushing 50,000 acres, and the only reason any of it is contained is because it has started burning into wheat fields. There is really no control of the fire when it is in the timber. The plume cloud in the picture is fueled by 200-300 foot flame lengths and incredible fire activity. This fire will not be put out anytime soon. It is NOT in Oregon, but it is threatening the Walla walla watershed, but is still atleast 15-20 miles from Oregon. I am not sure about the aircraft but I hope to all heaven that they have more than 5 aircraft. We had a 150 acre timber fire out of Ukiah a couple days ago and we had two air cranes, 1 heavy tanker and two seat planes. The fire is now being fueld by increbly high ERCs and moderate winds. Sad but true Washington is loosing some of their best elk hunting. This fire will continue to grow as long as their is timber to burn and the pictures you see on TV are of little flanks and such, not usually what is really happening; another sad but true, it is much worse than what you hear on the news. This one is gonna be really bad and it has the room to run.

as far as structures go I believe 200 would be a very good estimate from what we are hearing.

WE ARE UNDER REGULATED CLOSURE IN NORTHEAST OREGON , NO CAMFIRES AT ALL AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ ALL REGULATIONS BEFORE VENTURING INTO THE WOODS.

I will try and keep everyone updated.

That's one impressive conflagration, you could see the plume from the GR Valley on Sunday. :depressed:

Our valley is now filled with smoke, not sure if it's from that one or if something else is burning more to the West.

Bummer.

Todays SIT report shows it 40% contained, unknown containment time frame, 42,000 acres, 1407 persons fighting it, 38 crews, 139 engines, 8 helicopters, with 87 structures lost.
Current NIFC SIT report

"SCHOOL, Umatilla National Forest. A Type 1 Incident Management Team (Anderson) is
assigned. This fire is 16 miles south of Pomeroy, WA in timber. Private residences, outbuildings,
campgrounds, lookouts, cultural sites and wildlife habitat remain threatened. Structure protection
measures and damage assessments are ongoing. Steep terrain and rolling debris are hampering
containment efforts. Short crown runs and torching were observed."

Here is some good sat images of the fire.
