Where to buy a digital SLR camera in PDX?
I think I have settled on getting a Canon Rebel XT dSLR. The price on the web is much better than I have seen at Frye's. Also you can get better lens options on line. Where in PDX is the place to buy a nice camera like the dSLRs?
thanks ,Gus

Pro photo supply? Still way more than Adorama but I always liked shopping there.

I was always fond of Camera World. Go to their website, find what you want, and then pick it up at the store.

Thanks, Looks like camera world is the same as Frye's. I would rather buy local and not web but there is a gap. On the web you can get body and 2 lens for less than the body/lens kit for 999. :depressed:
What other lens options would you all suggest. It come with a 18-55mm . How much telephoto would you want in a second lens? 200?

I had a 20-80 & an 80-300 and liked them...At times I wish I had more. Any more than 300 and you will want to shoot from a stand or have an image stabilizing lens.
I shot lots of highschool football & baseball. As well as all manner of wildlife from ducks/geese & deer to flowers, mountains, and sunsets.
Lots of fun until my camera, bag, lenses, flashes...etc. got stolen!

I would go to camera world and mention the price gap. They may hook you up.
They will also be able to answer all your questions regarding lenses.

Re: Where to buy a digital SLR camera in PDX?
when I bought mine (not a DSLR, it's an Olympus 5050), I shopped around online alot and the best price I could find from a reputable dealer was B&H.
Decided to see what I could find in town. Went to Best Buy and CompUSA and they're camera "experts" had never heard of B&H and they were $100 more.
As I was walking out of CompUSA I looked across the parking lot and figured I'd check out Circuit City on a whim. They had it for $50 less than B&H.
Whatever you do DON'T BUY ONE FROM A NY DEALER unless it's B&H or Adorama. Bad cameras, not receiving a camera at all or gray market cameras out of NY is probably the oldest scam online.

Re: Where to buy a digital SLR camera in PDX?
I got a screaming deal at the Shutterbug outlet store in the Woodburn Company Stores mall. They matched the online price for a top end Nikon SLR(film). Wouldn't hurt to call them and see if they stock what you want then wheel n' deal.

Re: Where to buy a digital SLR camera in PDX?
thanks,, I will continue to look local and see what I can find... I didn't see the Canon at Best buy so I will peek at circuit city.
I have also been told Hong Kong is a great place to get cameras and I am fortunate enough to go there often. HOWEVER, I would rather not deal with the chance of any gray market stuff, although the shop in HK I hear is very legit. I may buy lens from there in the future. I did buy an elf a few years ago, but only beat US prices by 30 USD or so.
