Default Turkey Time

I am looking to hunt turkey for the 1st time. What are the best areas to hunt with good ratios. I know douglas has lots of turkeys, but the drive is far and it seems everyone hunts there anyway. Any tips on good land or land owners willing to let hunters enter.

I don't have any specific names, but if you go out around Dufur in White River I am sure land owners will let you hunt turkeys. They are kind of a nuisance these days. Also there a a ton of Turkeys anywhere between Hood River and The Dalles all the way back to the White River WA. You do not need to be in the WA like everyone else. Any transition area has lots of Turkeys.

I understand that there are birds in every county in Oregon. Maybe, maybe not ...point is is that there are a lot of birds around. Do some scouting and rely on your woodsmanship and not what other guys tell you, besides this board, there is pretty good tips here, and you can find 'em.

There are Turkeys around Pine Grove, and don't over look the White River game management area.
I am around that area quite a bit and have seen turkeys many, many times.

It's all in the "homework" gentlemen! But since you are a "rookie" let me share with you what was told to me before my first turkey season: "There are only three rules to turkey hunting- Don't let 'em see ya', don't let 'em see ya', oh and don't let 'em see ya'! It's a real fun hunt and you will blow a bird or twenty before you get one. Accept it and carry on! Don't count on a gobble to direct you. Sometimes they sneak right in on you without a peep! Mine walked three feet from me last year! Best hunting there is if ya' ask me! Enjoy it and join the National Wild Turkey Federation and help those cool birds carry on in your area! You can find who to contact in your area by logging onto www.nwtf.org.
