Re: fanny pack
I too got tired of the vest as it messed up my cast (a convenient excuse). I bought the Fishpond Waterdance Fanny Pack. I really like it. Fishpond has a number of other products too. I picked mine up from the helpful folks over at River City Fly Shop.

Re: fanny pack
I use a G Loomis fanny pack, but most of the time I use it as an over the shoulder bag.
It suits me just fine. $40 at Sportsmans.
Orvis and William Joseph, and Fish Pond also make some great products.
I'd suggest checking out a few.

Re: fanny pack
I'll stay with the vest, fanny packs are just not built to hold everything needed to fish correctly.
Good Luck!

Ryan, a response like that... deserves a response like this...
Whatta Pultz!
(Sorry folks, I couldn't resist... and yes, I know Ryan has never ever heard that one before... )
But seriously folks, I'll be here all week.
Pros and Cons of fanny packs vs. vests? Can I ask or is that a hijack?

You can wade very deep with a fanny pack (unless you want to really soak your gear). That is why there are "shorty" vests.
Also, I haven't seen a fanny pack that will hold as much as a good vest.

Re: fanny pack
What about a chest pack? If you can find one that will suit your casting style, they can hold a lot of gear and still allow you to wade in deep water.

Re: fanny pack
I use a fanny pack by Orvis. I guided with it for two years and had to carry tons of stuff. It's plenty big and has some very good features gear towards anglers. They have a smaller one if this one is too large. Check it out.

Re: fanny pack
I have used the Creek Companies Sandpiper Chest Pack $65. It has lasted me 10 years now. I will probably get ten more out of it. You can even buy the attachable backpack, if you want. I like it. It sits high on my chest and I can fit everything I need to fish inside it. I just change out my gear, depending on what I am fishing for.

Re: fanny pack
Heres what I have just started using. Its by JW outfitters I think they have a couple of sizes mine is the medium size. It has more storage than I have gear, plus a water proof bag on the inside. I had to modify it slightly by adding the ripple fly holder on the inside but that works great. I think one of the catalog retail giants has it on sale right now. Ill try and post some pics if I can.
