Default Nehalam report 7/30

Very foggy today, fished the mouth of the rive for the first part of the morning hoping the fog would lift but no luck. Ventured out, set the pots in 20' of water just North of the jetty. Ran out until I hit 52 degrees, the depth happen to be just over 200'. There was a nice rip in the water so we put the lines in. Fished around for a couple of hours, about 10am the bite started to turn on. We got two short strikes between 10 and 10:30. Trolled in circles for a bit then ventured South. Picked up a couple more short strikes and finally got one to stick around 11:30. The interesting things is that the fish where hitting very light, if they didn't take the bait the first hit I was able to get the rod out of the rod holder and feed the line to them. This prove to work both times the bait stuck. The first resulted in a nice 17 pound Chinook, the second when I set the hook my 50 pound main line snapped (tuff line!). Must have had a fray in it, it's not very often tuff line gives before 20 pound mono! Fished a couple more hours for one more short strike before giving up around 1:30. Pulled 3 pots and got our limit of crabs, VERY soft but big (7-8"). The seas where awesome accept for the fog. Not a bad day for 2 guys!
