Yep! And the "$200.00" store that I normally shop at is soon to be the "$500.00" store.

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
I heard about this reel and didn!t get to excitded about it . Mainly it was the cost .About a week later i had an oppurtuneity to make a few cast with it .It is a great reel and cast a lure about 40 feet futher than my DAIWA TD-X.Both poles had the same weight line and lure .It was pretty impressive to see the difference . The cost was more than i would like to pay , and it only comes in the round model . I have gotten used to the low profile models . I could get used to it but the money fifference..... is another story .

Riverkeeper
You might be able to get a backlash , but you do not have to use your thumb . I was on the water fishing when i tried it out .I tried to make the longest cast that i could and did not touch the spool . The jig hit the water and the spool stopped turning . No Backlash . How sweet it was ......

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
I already have several digitally controlled anti-backlash reels. I have to say they rock!! I just put my thumb down on the spool softly when I cast and feather touch it. Hey ma, look. No backlashes!
Yes, your thumb is a digit and if you use it to control your reel when you cast, you already own a digitally controlled anti-backlash reel.
Couldn't resist.

Next thing you know they are going to have digital line, actual jets on jet divers, or rocket assist on slinkies. Give me a break. Yeah, my thumb is my digital assist.

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
Supposedly that reel is as good as advertised, the biggest thing to come along in reels in a long time. Shimano makes great products

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
I work at Ollie Damon's. One of our techs went to Shimano for a tech based convention. He swears that one of the employees at Shimano could actually spool the 200 DC. Pretty impressive. I work on reels daily and think this is the next evolution for reels. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
The industry has been looking for new bells and whistles for reels for years. Shimano has found one that will be around for awhile.
I predict they will even be affordable for the average guy in a couple of years!

I dont understand all this talk about "Back lashes".
I never have a "Back Lash". just an occasional "Professional Overrun". Some of my "Overruns" can be challenging.

I prefer to think of them as a stress relieving episode for my line. It just needs to be a bit freer for a while.

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
Hmmmm,
Batteries, water, diodes, capasitors, water, brain chips, solar cells, and dropage oh ya and water, sounds like it will last as long as I keep it at home in the box...what about condensation, freezing temp performance??
never buy the 1st prototype..it takes a great learning curve to perfect a product. Where do you take it for a tune up and diagnostic check up??

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
OLLIIE DAMON!S will be repairing them and i heard that they would cost about $500.00 .On an earleyer post i menthioned that i had a chance to make a few cast with it while i was fishing . You have to make a few cast with it to believe how smooth it is , and the distance that you can get with it .I was useing a light weight jig . On an earleyer post it was reported that you could spool it . I think that with a heavier lure you could spool it .

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
Why? Seems like a waste of money to me. Kinda like the Calais. or the the super free reels. If you want extra casting distance for pitching light stuff, buy a spinning outfit. Honestly, Is that reel going to help you catch more fish? I think not.

Re: Digitally controlled anti-backlash by Shimano
I found that day fishing with "shalom" that you could cast a jig so far on 12 mono that you couldn't effectivly get a good hook set. The reel makes a little humming sound which is kind of cool and you can watch the line build up and then smooth out. For me the best application was with throwing plugs as I was able to get the plug deeper and keep it in the zone longer. I don't believe it works well with a snap cast, but it you load up the rod normally it just zings.
