I am going through Portland and I need to load up on the basics, cooler, flashers, leaders etc. Which store should I go to? Where is this Englunds at? thanks

Fishermans in Delta Park or Oregon City. Other stores may be out of what you need.

Roger that. Fishermen's has good selection and rarely runs out of the necessities (unlike some others).

I like Gary at "Great American Tackle" in Clackamas ( exit 12 off I 205). Not only can you get your needed supplies, you can get a boat load of quality information on local fishing.

Sorry- Englunds is west of here (Newport or Astoria).

Never heard of Fishermans Warehouse. Sportsman's Warehouse might be the one you are talking about. Also there's G.I. Joe's.

Sportsman's Warehouse Hands down. All the gear is current, the staff is very helpfull and you do not need to walk a country mile.

Re: PDX best fishing store...I need some gear
Sometimes the prices at Fisherman's are quite competative. I always shop around to compare.

Re: PDX best fishing store...I need some gear
IMHO Sportsmans Warehouse suck as for the selection of fishing stuff they carry, I'll go to fishermans marine or G.I.Joes even if the prices might be a tad higher but they have a much better selection than Sportsman's. I went in to sportsmans once and was going to buy a certain reel and I thought that I had stumbled into The Gun Room because the person behind the counter as much as said I was stupid if I bought the reel I wanted to buy and not the one He recomended. I went to Fishermans and bought the same reel for more money, and now have 2 of the same reel and so far they are just as good as the Shimano of the same type and for much less money than the Shimano. NOW for Gun related stuff I'll go to Sportsmans first, they have a much better selection of gun related stuff than G.I.Joes or fishermans marine. IMHO

Fisherman's Supply in Oregon City...the guys there in the back were friendly and enjoyed talking about fishing, and helped this newbie when I had questions about lures.

Re: PDX best fishing store...I need some gear
Personally I shop all of the big 3: Sportsmans Warehouse, Fisherman's and GI Joes. As far as selection I think it would be tied between Sportsmans and Fishermans. I get very friendly, knowledgeable help at Sportsmans, but the guys at Fisherman's seem to be even more knowledgeable and are always friendly. They never try to get me to buy anything, just give me honest opinions and let me decide. Plus when Fisherman's has a sale, their prices are hard to beat!
