Where can I get some Pigeons????

I can't seem to find any pigeons that I can train my dog with for some reson

. Any sug.'s about where I can get any mabe around Salem-Keizer area....

Toughest bird to find, especially this time of year. Have you checked the auction yds. Woodburn? Seems to me you can find about any bird there.

Anyone know the law on trapping them?

I have this church next door to my office that is just covered with pigeons. I figure a couple of days of cracked corn, then introduce the trap, and PRESTO :grin: I've got rats of the sky coming out my ears.

Barn pigeons or commonly called "rock pigeons" are the ones you normally see everywhere. I have a problem with them also. I spoke with the ODFW out of the Newport officeover a year ago and they said no problem to trapping them. Might want to contact your local ODFW to find out the rules. One thing I learned about pigeons. They will come to eat feed left out for them but will really come into a trap if you not only leave food but a source of water. Leave the trap open with food and water in a area they frequent for a few days and then they are easier to trap. I used to go up in the rafters of our towns local feed mill silo when I was a kid. At night, with a flashlight. I 'd grab them an put em in a sack. Not that hard really but kinda dangerous climbing around old timbers at night.

I have a pretty fun time (grandson, too) trapping them on the patio with a salmon net...they show up to eat below the feeders and when three or four wander beneath the suspended net, we have a trip system (fireline, actually, rigged to the patio door, out of sight) and can get one or two at a time...keep them in a dog kennel until I get enough to donate to a friend with a coop and and a kennel full of pointers...

GI Joe's has boxes of clay "pigeons" for sale. Something like 90 'birds' in a box. Can't say if the dog would like them.
