Default Cleaning tables??

I am buying a house in the near future and want to make/have made/or buy a cleaning table. What are the best surfaces?? I was thinking Stainless steel would be nice and easy to clean. Any one out there have a place or friend they know that makes cleaning tables? I was thinking of a table about 40 inches long and 20 inches wide but only like a inch or two deep. I will have Hot and Cold water with a drian. Would like to add a garbage dissposal some too.

I've got diamond plate on the tailgate of my truck and have had great success with it. I've always thought if I made a cleaning table I would use that! The raised diamonds "hold" the fish for easy fillet or cleaning.

My $0.02

For sure the diamond plate would hold the fish in place. It is hard to filet a fish when it is sliding all over. If I could keep it clean that would be a good way to go !! My boss hase like 4 4x8 sheets I could practice with
Oh, if I wanted all I need is like a little square welded in the middle to hold the fish in place. That would keep cleaning down

Thx for the advise!!!!

It all depends on how much you want to spend. UHMW is a plastic that is widely used for Cutting Boards to Boat trailer Skids and Drift Boat Bottoms. I would start cheap and improve as needed. Anything to stay away from those gross Cleaning Stations.

I wanted SS so bad but couldn't justify the cost.

We headed off to Lowe's and found a prefab 12' countertop with a ding in the bargain bin, a couple of brackets and it was on the wall. We added a utility sink which we let drain into a bucket for plant watering.

We mounted it waist high so we didn't have to hunch over while cleaning fish, clams and crabs.

Total cost...less than $100

BTW...it also serves as a buffet table during parties

I made this one it mounts to my downrigger mount. This thing is very handy in the boat for rigging it is just the right height. I made it so you can take it out and it fits on any flat surface. I put a rail on each end on the bottom the same height as the downrigger mount so it sets flat and doesn't rock when on a table. If I clean at a cleaning station I just put it on the cleaning table it is much cleaner. It also would work good on a pic nick table when camping. The cost of materials ran $40 you could make one any size you want mine is about 30" wide and 13" deep.

Try snooping around some of the Used resturant supply places and remodels of small fast food places and the such. Sometimes you can get a single sink and counter of stainles steel pretty cheap. They normaly have legs and a good back splash all ready to go. I've seen some for under a 100.00 bucks. Just do a bit of looking and asking and you'll find what you need.....

Those are all fancy and very nice ideas, but I just really like my wood table for cleaning. It doesn't slip and slide, and we can just bleach it after use.
I don't know... Guess we are just old fashioned out here.
Some wood is actually better than most other things. I don't know if it's true, but I've heard that maple has enzymes or something that neutralize bacteria better than antibiotics.

My cleaning table is 7'x30" and has a small basin at one end with a drain. It also has a curb around the perimeter to contain excess bodily fluids. It will easily support
300 +# and is built fron 1/4" thick fiberglass with a tough gel coat surface. The best thing about it is I didn't pay but $20.00 for it.
It's a surplus cadaver table!! To the best of my knowledge, no Human was ever layed out on it but man is it ever one awesome fish cleaning table.

We have a Big Jake's. (Please, no non sponsor contact info. Sorry!) Edit: they are available from iFish sponsor Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor.

Mr. Salmonatrix has plumbed it for hot and cold water and it ROCKS. We also put some non-skid stuff on the UHMW to keep the slip-n-slide to a minimum.

Yes, I have a 4 foot X 10" piece of cedar lateral siding that was bought from a local lumber yard. Its great since the back side has alot of texture and keeps the fish from sliding around. It goes with sometimes depending where I'm fishing and camping. I just rinse it off afterwards jently and it never has a fish smell. Although I must say its developing alot of Cuts in it.

I've gotten 3 to 4 foot sections of laminate countertops (with molded in backsplash) free from countertop manufacturing shops. They usually always have a pile of rejects that are quite sound and they are happy to give them away.

I'm with Jennie though, and prefer a wood surface. Much less slipping and sliding around.

I use a 4X4 piece of plywood. I just lay it on my tailgate and hose it off and scrub with a little diluted bleach to clean it. I've had it for at least 7 or 8 years. I do like the wood surface better than a hard slippery surface to fillet fish.

Hey kz4life..

Do you know where a guy can purchase large sheets of UHMW?

I to like wood tops, however, they never seem to hold up in the weather and I hate splinters in my fish meat.

It has to be good old wood because when your tired of it or it gets old you can donate it to the camp fire.

Have you considered a 5 gal. bucket? Put the fish in head down, snip, snip & away we go. I saw Capt. Hook do this one time, quite effective. ************************** THIS WORKS FOR CLEANING ONLY, Not filleting or steaking

I could see going down one side to get the 1st filet, but then I think it would be hard to get the next side since the fish will be very flemzy.

Coming out of the woods the other day I found an older SS freezer next to our gate. It's approximately 4'x2'x3' and weighs 200#+. It's all SS. If someone wants it, they can have it free. I brought it home and got some dirty looks from the wife.
