We couldn’t have asked for better weather on the Olympic peninsula. My friend and I took time off for a four day fishing trip for some summer steel and silver. We primarily were jig fishing until the sun came out and then switch over to hardware. I recently got into jig fishing and I am now hooked. I can’t believe I have been doing fishing for steel for over 15 years and never tried it before. I recently bought the jig kits off of First Cast Jigs and nearly all the fish were taken using my home made jigs that I tied for the trip.
On my first cast I got a nice fish. Two casts later I got my second. She was pretty small and it was still so early so back she went. About 45 minute later when Justin is punched out with his two I get my third bobber down. These were hot fish and pound for pound they were excellent fighters. We then fished for some summer silvers and got one of those too. Here was the first day’s catch.

This was dinner every night and the back view wasn’t bad either.
All the other days we really had to work for them, sometimes walking the river 3 to 4 miles to find them. The river was really rocky and most of the time the fish were hanging out in mine fields or behind other large submerged rocks.

In all we bonked 11 steelhead, 1 summer silver and a half dozen surf perch. We also lost probably 6 or 7 steelhead and hooked many cutthroat. Most of the fish were between 4 to 8 pounds.

We did see some slabs swim up river but they never seemed to be the biters.
This trip made my summer. We are planning on making this a yearly trip. 51 weeks and counting……….
