Default Chesapeake Breeders?

I did a search and unless I'm not spelling it right I couldn't find anything.
Any breeders to recommend? Son wants a chessie for hunting and after some research understands the quirks of the breed and the importance of a quality breeder.

Stg rule,
What frame size chessie is your son looking for? Does he want a 100lb or a 70 lb dog? Personal reccomandation smaller is better. Also is he interested in color phases or will brown due? They are great dogs but breeding makes a ton of difference. T.J. my male, came out of california (I will post the breeders info when I find it). He has 9 feild champions within 2 generations of his lineage. Spendy, but worth every penny. My female came is out of minneappolis, she has good lines, but they are more schewed towards show. She'll be a good hunter, but her desire to retrive isn't as good TJ's. My advice to your son is research the breeder well and spend a ton of time with the dog as soon as you get it. Chessies need time, but are the toughest hunting companions you can get period.
WRO
P.S. if you have more questions feel free to email me.

I meant a search on ifish. We did a google search. What I am looking for is recommendations from somebody who has actually got a dog from one of those breeders. Good ones? Bad ones? Most of the websites don't tell you if they have had problems in the past.

WRO: He is looking for one that is dead grass color (is that right?) The rest I don't know. I'll have him get ahold of you if he needs more info. He was thinking of a local breeder if possible.

Deadgrass is the hardest color phase to find. There is a good breeder in Bend. I 'll see if i can get ahold of him and find out if what is schedule is like, he usually has a waiting list.

Do a search for Working Retriever Central. There are always listings for all kinds of retriever puppies, and most of them are field trial/hunt test lines. My "Bob" is from the St. Paul Minn area, out of one of the better field lines. Has been fairly easy to train (well, for a 'peake!), and we have managed both the senior and master AKC hunting titles. If you or your son have questions, do hesitate to drop me a line. I'm pretty familiar with most of the working lines in chessies, and have watched or judged a bunch. The chessie club had their national field trial speciality here a few years back, and I was on the committee. Lots of brown dogs! Peakes rule, labs drool. Don't belive a thing Tilla says about my Bob! At least his wife liked Bob well enough to pass him on his last leg for the senior!

There is a guy in Idaho.....Butch is his name.
He was in the DU magazine a few years back. A bud got one of his pups and it is everything a chessie should be and then some. He is not stubborn or hard headed. Butch makes sure of that. I can get you contact info if you need it.

One of the better consistent performing breeders is Nordom Kennels in Wa. They are Dom and Norene Schezeny (sp?).
I've judged their dogs for years, the most consistent Chessies and most the owners have all their fingers too. (Not like James (three finger) from Idaho!
If you want details, e-mail me.

What quirks, STG? Chessies are happy dogs. They sure love to smile alot.

I did a search on "Chesapeake Bay retriever breeders" and got a ton of stuff on google.com.

Hopes this helps.

I want a Chessie also. Thanks for all the good info here. I think any breed of dog can be a pain if not trained well, or enough time spent with the dog.
I'm not quite ready yet...but will be soon! I think that breeder in Bend is a good one, from what little research I've done.

Hey, I still have all my fingers! I agree with Tilla about Nordom dogs, they are pretty consistant performers. If you want my private opinions about some of the breeders, email me. I did look at the WRC site yesterday, there was one litter in Colorada that I would highly recommend, out of Clipper's Gustowind. I know Gus really well, you would most likely get a deadgrass or brindle type dog. Haven't seen much of Butch's stock in recent years, don't know how active he is anymore.

Thank you everybody. My son will be putting all this to good use.

PS Vandal, I replied back to your e-mail thanking you the day you sent it to me and it seems you haven't read it yet and I wanted to make sure you got a personal thank-you.
