Well after viewing the site for quite some time I decided you all needed a bigger fan base from Eastern Oregon. Born and raised in Pendleton I have always been an extremely avid hunter and fisherman(fly-fishing). Well Each spring when those big bulls from Mt. emily, starkey, and ukiah start dropping their antlers I am all over those southern facing slopes walking brush lines and glassing for hours. Well one nice afternoon I spotted a dandy 6 point antler in the distance. I didnt have time to get it that day because I was leaving and it was across the canyon. I knew that the next morning I could drive my ATV right to the antler before I headed into bigger country. The next morning went as planned and I drove up the ridge line to fetch the antler. Nearing the top I knew I would have to drive back down the other ridge line a little ways to find it. Now all the time on my ATV was not very steep and I dont usually take chances for numerous reasons until....
well I decided to drive across th bowl at the top of the ridge instead of driving all the way to the top and back down I tryed to drive across the bowl at the top of the two ridges. Well after only a little ways I knew I was in trouble. my fourwheeler was starting to roll and I bailed off the downhill side because I couldnt get out the other way. Well it rolled down the canyon about 350 feet and it even landed facing uphill right side up. We extracted it from the brushy draw and it started right up, heck I even drove it up onto the trailer. After replacing all the plastic, rear axle, rear diff. case, flushing motor, spending hours with a torch bending my racks straight, new butt stock for my thompson carbine, new lenses for my camera equipment....lol....and more, I finally decided I need to be more careful when I am up there. The saddest part of the entire story, I never even got the anter.
well I hope this web site will be fun and I will be able to help as many of you as I can with up to date reports from eastern oregon. I am working for ODF this summer and spend all my time in the mountains so I will let yall know how things go around here.
