Default new reg for 2003

This may have been brought up but i just saw it tonight. On page 12 of the 2003 big game regs is an article regarding the possesion of big game animals in the field. If its a bull you need to leave the gonads attached to one quarter, if a cow the vulva must remain attached. Wonder who thought this one up?

They've done this in Colorado for years. May sound tough, but it really isn't that hard to do. Cut's down on "recycling" the head.

You can still quarter and leave a nut on each hind quarter. You've got to skin them out and retain the connections. Like castrating calves in reverse

The main thing is not to lose them before you get them home.

You don't actually have to keep the gonads attached. The sack will do. Just leave some hide that attaches the sack to the quarter. Wrap with a plastic bag and a twistie. That will keep the hair from contacting the meat.
As GRB said, this is common practice in several other states. It really isn't that much hassle but I bet some tickets get written this year.

As long as the Antlers are attached you don't need anything else. I don't see this changing anything, unless it is an antlerless animal.

corlyn, it does change things unless you pack your elk out with the head attached. About the only way you can do that is if you shoot it next to a road. Not many people I know of who can drag a whole elk out of the woods.

Good point Washington hunter. I wasn't thinking about that, I don't think I would get that pack on my back. Thanks.
