As a member of the North American Fishing Club, I occasionally log on to their website and enter the "Click & Win" contest where they give away free items every month. A few days ago I got a call from the Bakers Narrows Lodge on Lake Athapapuskow in Manitoba informing me that I had won a 5 day fishing trip at their lodge. The package included a cabin, 3 meals a day, and a boat, motor and unlimited gas. Unfortuneately, it did not include transportation, was only for one person (additional guests would be $1000 each), and had to be used on certain dates in August. They followed up the call with an email. Air fare is quite expensive to get there, and it is a 1500+ mile drive one way. Taking all this into consideration, I decided I just couldn't do it at this time.
I wrote them back saying I was sorry, but I had to decline the prize.
I got an email back today saying they were sorry that I was unable to accept and would I like to consider the option of taking the trip next July, which I thought was very nice of them. I talked over with my wife and she thought it would be a great idea if we went. So next July we will pack up the folding trailer and head for Manitoba. We can even bring the dog. Lake Athapapuskow (means "Rocks All Around" in Cree) has Lake Trout (the lake has a former World Record of 62lb, 8oz.), Northern Pike, Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Burbot, Whitefish and Perch. We are really looking forward to it.
