Default Deschutes River

Thinking about going fishing this weekend. Does anyone have any tips on how to fish for steelhead. Heard the Deschutes River is good place to target some metalheads. Tips on techniques and colors to use would be great.

thanks
EE

The big D is a well documented river. You don't mention where you are going but some easy methods are swung flies and spinners. No bait. Another popular method is plugs behind a planer.
If you start from the mouth you can hike up the trail and fish quite a few nice places. But there are so many different places to fish on the Deschutes it is hard to nail it down.

Side planing at the mouth would be a go to for me and I have been fishing it for over 30 years.
