Message for gun, rod, bow.
You mentioned Moose with a bow in Id. That wil lbe an awsome hunt. I would hunt the Southern part of the state. I think you mentioned a friend who lives near Soda springs. That would be the area to hunt. Tons of Moose. There will be good spot and stalk , and you will see lots of Moose. It shouldnt be so wet and rain the entire trip. Yes ,, Hunt Soda areas. The units around Blackfoot Res. North Idaho has lots of good bulls also, but its so thick .......id. p.

Re: Message for gun, rod, bow.
Gunrodbow.. Also , Moose are the most dangerous beast in the forest. I have been chased by a young bull more than once. Ive seen a bull attack a rubber raft. I saw a Ford Pinto totaled by a bull in the rut. Ive had a friend attacked but a young bull in spring. Some will act so dumb, that you think they are all like that, but they are not. I have seen big huge bulls act so damn smart you cant believe it. I mean as weary as any elk or deer. Good luck.

Re: Message for gun, rod, bow.
Thanks ID,
Kind of you to offer the info. I'm continuing to research Idaho and Moose. I'm putting in for other Western states as well.
I always respect something much larger and more wild than myself.
I watched the video of a cow moose stomping a guy to death at a bus stop in (?town?) Alaska.
I've seen similar video of elk attacking people in Bamf.
Thanks,
GRB

GRB...if you draw a tag and get to hunt the rut...I can show you how to call them using a coffee can and shoestring. Worked great for me in Alaska

GRB,
That was in Anchorage. They kill dogs up there all of the time.

Re: Message for gun, rod, bow.
GRB,
I know an outfitter in BC that I can highly recommend. He's in a good moose area and while most of his hunts are rifle, he is quite comfortable with bow hunters. The nice thing is his prices are in Canadian dollars. A huge portion of his hunters are repeats, so that should tell you something. Lotsa bears up there too, both black and griz.
I hunted with him a few years ago and had my moose the second day. Hunt cost about 2500 for a full week.

Re: Message for gun, rod, bow.
Just thinking about a Moose story.
My grandma was telling me about a story were her and a lot of other people were over in Idaho I think, well anyway they were snowmobiling and the guys went racing off and was chasing some moose around and well poor little grandma comes riding down the trail minding her own business and this Moose starts chasing her down the trail. Well, she said she got that thing up to 70 mph and was outta there in no time at all.
I was just thinking about that story reading this topic

Re: Message for gun, rod, bow.
There is moose where I hunt in chamberlain basin in Idaho. Im not real sure that during the rut that I would try to call in a bull while hunting with a bow, unless I was in a tree stand, I have had some real exciting times calling in bulls and then passing on them. They seam to take it personally. Iv'e had them take it personally three times and I can with out a doubt tell you it can be very exciting. The one post was talking about rafts?. I have around seven hours of vidio while hunting moose in Alaska and on a part of one of those vidio's shows a fifty inch bull coming out in the river after our raft. It can be intertaining. Anyway good luck on finding your hunt.

Re: Message for gun, rod, bow.
Grantspastor,
Thanks for the offer, I've read your posts and would appreciate the info. Sounds like I'd like to listen to some of your stories as well. I'll be on the Rogue in May. Maybe catch up with you then?
Skein and others, feel free to send info. My buddy Rich has taken 3 moose in BC. He and I hunted black bears with bows up there too. It was something to do in the spring. We saw lots of moose (I was within 30' of a a cow and calf for 15 minutes). Got some nice bears. Cool trip.
My real desire is to hunt a moose unguided with a bow. I'd like to try drawing a tag in the "lower 48". A huge trophy isn't as important to me as doing it my way. (can't explain)
Did a week solo in AK ('bout 90 miles N of Iliamna), in 2000. My partner Keith planned to go but drew a Hart Mt tag so he bowed out, I wanted to go, so went alone. Got a Caribou with my bow, had lots of time to think, played with the timer on my camera, great experience.
Thanks All for the help. I appreciate it.
GRB
