Default Sandy report, question, and PIC

Fished the Sandy this evening from about 6pm - 8:30pm. Really slow, hardly anyone else out there, but I was lucky enough to get a bite.

So can you guess where I was fishing based on the picture?

The pic was an afterthough, figured nobody would believe me unless I had proof.

That leads me into a question as well... This steelie was small (3-4lbs) and was a young hen (very small eggs). Is this some sort of early winter, or something else?

it either already spawned, or most summers actually spawn much later in the year, so the eggs might not have even started developing yet.

Summer fish. They spawn late winter to early spring based on the strain. The eggs are just starting to develop.

Summer steelhead don't start spawning until December, and most actually Spawn in January and into Feburary.
What I've noticed about hatchery summers, is smaller fish (less than five pounds), tend to be skinny, even though they have not spawned yet. It could be an evolutionary trait, to deal with low flows and warmer water...or a million other things. But no, that fish is not spawned out, and I bet the meat was still bright red and tasted great!
Good job!
