Big Cougar...WoW
This is a friend of a friend's cat, so I don't have much data on the take. However, it is an awesome photo and worth sharing. gus

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
That is an AWESOME cat!
We saw 3 this year elk hunting and a friend of mine shot one that was sneaking up on him and his hunter! Let me tell you--it is scary when they "just show up" on you.

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
We must have some mutual "friend of a friend's", because I got that picture sent to me on Wednesday. According to my information, it was taken in the Northern Cascades of Washington this fall.

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
TR,,, We probably do, but like i said it is a friend of friend..
This cat is #6 Boone & Crocket.
I would truly be concerned seeing this guy in the woods. I have seen them half this size while bow hunting, and they raised the hair on my neck, but I thought I could physically take one.....NO way with this guy, you would be kitty chow in a blink.

I wonder what a cat that size sounds like when it purrs. Maybe a VW Bug reving it's engine.

I just can't imagine what a cat like that would do to a man if it pounced on his back, knocking him to the ground!

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
I found the story of the new Colorado record cat. Looks close to the same size as the one in the pic above. Both are huge Record Cougar Bests Roosevelts

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
There's a little snippet about the cat on teh B&C page. *LINK* It was taken 6 miles from Bellevue, WA. So for all of you who say there won't be cat hunting until one munches on a soccer mom...
Insert joke about "soccer mom" call here...

Good looking cat. Must eat deer for snack, and elk for the main course.

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
We may have just found our "poster boy" for the bait/hounds repeal campaign. I hope all the urbanites realize that 6 miles out of Bellevue means that Bellvue WAS in this big cats hunting range.
Unless that guy is 3' tall, that is a freakin' huge lion.
Thanks Gus for the pic.
Maybe see if Bill M can get it in the paper. It'll help our cause.

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
Here is the article, Just think how big this thing would have been if he had all four feet to run with? I didn't notice till I read the title of the article that he only has one front foot.
One Front Foot One Big Cat
January 21, 2003
This big tom was taken by Jim Hackewitz using a varmint call and hunting within 6 miles of Bellevue, WA. There is no official score as of yet, but judging by the photo, he has to score high in the All-time book.
Bellevue is a major suburb of Seattle. Washington voters passed a bill banning the hunting of cougars with dogs a few years back. Good idea?
UPDATE: Unofficial score – 15-12/16, which would be in a 6-way tie for #7 all-time. Included in this list is a 15-12/16 tom taken by the only American President in the records book – Boone and Crockett Club Founder, Theodore Roosevelt, which when entered was the World's Record cougar taken in Meeker, CO in 1901.
CORRECTION: Jim Hackewitz did the calling. The big tom was taken by Ron Hisler from Duval, WA. with one shot from a .30/06 shooting Barnes X bullets.

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
My wife and I were talking about what I would do if WE were out hunting and that big cat was after us? She made a remark about my weight and how slow I run. And what did I tell her? I could get away real easy all I would have to do is trip her.

Re: Big Cougar...WoW
Maybe we need to get your friend a ticket to Wales, England.
It seems that they are having a problem with big cats.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/2639719.stm
The video clip is very interesting. I kinda doubt that an oversized black and white housecat could eat a dog.
