Pips Leader Box Help?
I have trouble with geting my pre-tied leaders out. They all tangle up and get kinks in the line. I only put 6-8 hooks in it with 3'max leaders. I have 4 brand new ones and one in my vest. I would hate to scrap them. Any Ideas Thanks....Ross

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
I threw mine away cuz it was crap, I wrap my leaders on foam. and it fits 25 and never gets tangled and always stays on!

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
Last in, first out ... pull the hook out and then pull the leader out through the slot in the side of the box, allowing it to turn as you pull the tag end of the leader out.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
FisherMan8989, how do you keep them from unwraping and what kind of foam and size work? I do alot of bank fishing thats why I bought the pips, it is small.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
Pop the base out and grease it up a bit. Pete is right, last one in, first one out.
I stack them in three vertical rows starting on the left/bottom, working to the top.
I've been able to get 24 to 36 rigs in a pip but prefer about 20.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
Here is the trick as i have found it to work best.
tie all your leaders at once and twist them all up in one shot. Do NOT add more leaders till the old ones are gone thats when things get messed up. cannot wind them up one at a time and cannot put new ones on top of old ones

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
Rob, I have done it both ways and get the same result as Quick Fisher here. There has to be a trick. I was actually cussing at mine today. I have like 15 of them, I don't want to change to something else............I am going to try all these suggestions at once, as I have tried them all one at a time.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
Here is an example using 1/2 inch foam insulation from the home improvement store.
I usually cut the insulation to about 6 inches and wrap 6-8 leaders around it. Two or three of those tucked in your vest is all you usually need for a day's fishing. It's far easier to tie your leaders the night before when your fingers are dry and warm rather than trying to do it while on the water.
Some fishermen use a longer length of insulation, put a wooden dowel through the middle, and rig it to the side of their drift boat. The leaders can then be easily rolled off the caddy. Hope this helps.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
I use the kind of Foam John B does and i cut a slit all the wayt around the foam except i leave about 1/4 of uncut somewhere on the roll for the line to go into. I do all bank fishing and works better than pips for me and holds more and less tangles. i cut off a foot piece and can fit 25 on there. just like john does except i wrap mine in a perfect line so ther eis more space.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
I used to have this prob too. like everyone else said, "Last in first out" once you tie all your leaders wind them all in at the same time loosly donot put tension on them. Oh, one more thing, Donot pull straight up when removing leaders, pull them at an angle towards the gap.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
They do not like long leaders. And it is very possible to overfill them. But for a shorebound angler, I think they are the best option. Foam is getting the nod in our boat more and more.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
Having used them since they were invented (at least 25 years ago) right here near Wenatchee, Wa. The only problem I've had is some of the newer ones are awfully "tight" when you try to twist them. As said before, pop the liner out and put a little vaseline in there.
As to filling them, here's what I do. Start at the left side (9:00) of pip and tie one riggin' at a time. Place each one in, working from the left to the right, with the divit at 6:00. After 5 riggs, I straighten the leaders and roll them up with tension on them. I then add 5 more, straighten/tighten, and roll up. It's always worked for me, as long as you remove the last ones first. I hope this helps.

Re: Pips Leader Box Help?
I use foam pipe insulation with a dowell clued inside of it ,you can cut it to any length you want and it works great,it comes in differant dia I use the 11/2 " ?? dia and a wooden dowell that fits snug in the hole with some super glue and cut to desired length. Just wrap your leader around and stick in your hook and your ready to go.
