arrow question
I'm thinking of switching from a plastic vane to a feathered vane. I would like to get some input thanks. more info; I shoot a 60lb bow with dual mild cams and a 2213 superlite arrow

Re: arrow question
Feathered vanes are noisier in flight, get wet (and therefore heavier), less durable and slows the arrow more.
Stick with plastic.
BTW why are you thinking of switching?

Re: arrow question
I would second that opinion. Plastic vanes are just way tougher and impervious to the elements. At this stage in the game, with all of the pass through rests and cut-out risers, I really do not see any benefits to using feathers other than asthetics.
Plastic vanes also weigh the same within about a grain and everything is just more consistent.

Re: arrow question
This was a bull I called in for my buddy this year. I actually shot a rag 4x4 the day before--I darn sure would have waited had I know this bad boy was in the country!
Tough hunting year though. We have a really good party though, I am afraid that there really is not an opening at the moment. 4 teams of 2 guys.
Tip: There is no "I" in TEAM! My partner and I have shot 5 bulls in 3 years because of this concept and I think it really works

Re: arrow question
I'd stay with plastic. I've had the feathers fall off the shaft while hunting in the rain. Plastic with a bead of cement down each side of the shaft and one dab on each end.
Crayfish, I agree with the buddy system but have personally had more success on my own. I have called in many for others and they shot them but every time I have them called in for me I have missed(personal pressure I think from my buddy watching). If I really am serious about an elk for me, I go alone. If my buddy wants one, I do the callin till he gets one, I actually enjoy seeing others get that thrill more than myself these days.
Cheers

Re: arrow question
Its actually CPR-Cornelius Pass Rd., but those of us who have to deal with it everday, it's CPH-Cornelius Pass Highway.
And like I said

Re: arrow question
Sounds good--Lived off it a couple of years myself! I live off Jackson School Road in Hillsboro. I'll take you up on that sometime-perhaps the Roadhouse?

Re: arrow question
Hey Guys,
I'll buy a round if you want to have a "stick flingers" roll call.
I'm assuming that is an Oregon bull. If so (and even if not) WTG. Awesome animal. Real trophy!!
BTW can't think of a good reson to go from plastic to feathers other than tradition. Rain really messes with them. But hey, Ted uses them so...
My buddy Gary took a nice 6x6 two years ago with a wood "stick" bow, cedar arrows, feather fletches, finger release, instinct. That's all good, but I like my "white man's bow".
Post something about a bow hunter's roll call, I'll be there if I can.

Re: arrow question
GRB--That is an Oregon Bull (public land)and the guy that shot it lives in Sherwood! He has another Oregon Bull that nets 335 too!
I would love to have his luck when it comes to getting shots at the big ones
I think it might be a little early for a roll call, but I think later on that it would be great to do that!
I think next year I might head down to New Mexico in January for their late archery hunt-my buddy went this year and had a great time and shot a decent buck too!

Re: arrow question
I hunted NM a couple years ago. Know some guys down there. They like that late hunt. Over the counter tag too.
Thanks for the info on the bull. You guys will have to come by and shoot some arrows, tell some lies this summer. My shop is on 10 acres in Sherwood and I set up compressed bales at various distances and angles.

Re: arrow question
I'll probably do a little shooting just before turkey season.
I won't get real serious about setting out bales and shooting weekly till say july, can drink more beer when it's hot out anyway.
Maybe have a beer and talk about hunting between now and then though.
What about one of those video shooting ranges? One around here?
I shot one in K-Falls once...FUN
