Default You\'re a guaranteed winner!

In the mail today, I got a flier from Murray Chevrolet saying I am a guaranteed winner of one of 5 prizes.
1.) Sony Big screen HD TV ODDS 1:10,000
2.) $2,000.00 cash ODDS 1:10,000
3.) $1,000.00 Cash ODDS 1:10,000
4.) Free lube, oil & filter ODDS 9996:10,000
5.) $20,000.00 Cash ODDS 1:10,000
TO WIN ONE OF THESE PRIZES, YOU MUST PRESENT THE INVITATION AND SRATCH OFF THE POT"O"GOLD TICKET IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN OUR SHOW ROOM.
MY WIFE SCRATCHED IT OFF HERE AT HOME AND WE HAD THE ONLY $20,000.00 TICKET!!!
I CALLED MURRAY TO EXPLAIN THAT MY WIFE SCRATCHED IT OFF AT HOME AND AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE MANAGER, HE SAID, BRING IT ON IN AND WE WILL REDEEM IT. WHEN I TOLD HIM IT WAS THE $20,000.00 CASH, HE CHOKED AND SAID, "ARE YOU SURE?" I SAID YES. SO HE PUT ME ON HOLD AGAIN AND CAME BACK SAYING "THE GM ISN'T IN TODAY, I'VE BEEN TALKING WITH THE ASSISTANT MANAGER BUT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO IT IN OUR PRESENCE AT OUR LOCATION!" "CALL BACK ON FRIDAY WHEN HE IS HERE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU."
We had the only grand prize ticket out of 10,000 sent out!
My wife and I aren't talking right now.
I think the odds of them redeeming it just went to 1:1,000,000,000

Wow. I'd be taking it in right now, saying that you were just told to bring it in to be redeemed. Here's the hippocracy, So they'd redeem it if was the lube, oil filter, (even though you scratched it at home) but not if it was another larger prize? Sucky rule about having to do it in front of a representative. The Oregon lottery doesn't make you do a scratch off in front of the store owner. The ticket is real and the odds were against you. Better be very nice and calm in your conversations (at the start). Like I said, I'd be in there today...20 k is a heck of a nice bonus. If that's for real, man....I don't think I'd be thinking about much else at the moment.

I'M THINKING I WILL GO IN ON FRIDAY FOR TWO REASONS:
FIRST, THAT IS THE OFFICIAL DAY THEY WILL BE DOING THE DRAWINGS AND SECOND, THE GM WILL BE IN THAT DAY.(ALSO, THERE IS A CHANCE THAT ONE OF THE LOCAL NEWS STATIONS WILL BE PRESENT THEN TOO, SO THAT MIGHT MAKE IT INTERESTING)
I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO REDEEM IT BECAUSE I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN AN OIL/LUBE FOR FREE BUT, MY WIFE SAW IT BEFORE ME AND GOT ANXIOUS.
IF I'M REALLY LUCKY, THEY WILL PROBABLY OFFER ME A FREE LUBE AT BEST.
OVERALL, I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH MURRAY AND IF THEY GAVE ME THE MONEY, I WOULD PROBABLY JUST BUY ANOTHER CAR THERE WITH IT.
HEY! MAYBE I SHOULD TELL THEM IF THEY GIVE ME THE CASH, I WILL BUY A CAR WITH IT!

I agree. That's probably why they wanted you to scratch it off during the event. They want the news people to see you jump up and down saying "I won! I won!"

I'd go in and give then the show. Then collect the check, pay 10,000 to taxes and start browsing the "boats and tackle" classifieds.

Good luck.

Go in there, then pretend to scratch it off while no one is around. Then find someone and show them what you got.

The fine print says:
" Winners must be 18 years old, have a valid drivers license and social security card and are responsible for all taxes. Grand Prize winner will have achoice of $20,000 or a 2005 Chevy Siverado 1500 with title. *On approved credit. Plus title & $50.00 administrative fees. ** Supplemental cash may be required if negative equity exceeds actual cash value."

Im thinking the "OAC" part of it gives it away, and the part about negative equity. Why in gods name would someone have to be approved (creditwise) to get a free truck. I think somewhere along the line they are insinuating that they will give you 20,000 cash towards the purchase of another vehicle. Just like the 2000 cash back on new cars, if you went in and bought that car and then asked for the $2000 in cash they would tell you that the 2000 doesnt exist. Sorry to burst your hopes but I have seen this ploy numerous times from dealerships. Its all a hoax, I bet 3 or more people won the same prize as you because even if they say 1 in 10,000 people then if they mail out 30,000 envelopes they can give 3 away. I hope I am wrong and you get a wad of cash but I dont think its going to happen.

I'd be shopping for that scratch off material in a hurry so you can put it back on and pretend to be excited. LOL I am skeptical of the promotion though. It will be interesting to hear your results.

The OAC and negative equity are standard disclaimers. I think it's still a long shot that you actually really won something, but if you did, it's probably covered by a special insurance like the "hole in one cars" at golf tournaments, in which case it will be up to an insurance company, not Murray to decide to pay you. The Silverado will be a regular cab 4x2 with not much else on it

I am sure they have it insured and it will be up to the insurance company to decide. The only problem with that is they will want to follow the letter of the promotion.

Uh..good luck. Not to be a jerk, but ya didnt follow the rules so they are under no obligation. Although, if you offer to use it to buy a new vehicle there. An auto sales manager probably isnt above "bending" the rules to sell a car.

I entirely agree. I don't expect anything.
If you read my post, I stated that the odds of them actually redeeming it are probably worse than 1:1,000,000,000
But, it's worth a try to see if they want to sell me a new car with the money!
Like I said, they will probably say: "I'll tell ya what, we WILL give you a free lube though" or they might say: "we will give you a discount on a new car for your troubles."

I didn't make it in to scratch mine off with them present so I scratched it after the weekend was over and I too won the "Grand Prize" I'm sure we're not the only ones who won the "Grand Prize" They probably printed them all that way and when you redeem the ticket they put it in a drawing with all the others. They'll do most anything to get you on the premises.

Exactly. The grand prize is the only one printed in bold and black. That doesn't mean that it is the winning ticket! The other prizes are printed in pale pastel yellow colors. Because the grand prize was printed in BOLD BLACK lettering, I thought it WAS the winning ticket and so does everyone else that brings them in.
The winning ticket is decided by the secret numbers below that, which correspond to a group of numbers that they have posted on the wall.
I won an oil lube.
Before I took it in, I asked 3 different people if I won and all said it looked as though I had, so we all fell for the same trick.
I mentioned to the marketing rep. that it was very sneaky marketing but it worked to get me in there and he smiled and said, yes.
Tricked me very well.
I asked if any one had won the grand prize, he said no but, one of the people he works with at another location (because this is all arranged by an outside party. Not Murray Chevrolet.)had received one of the $1,000.00 tickets a week ago. So it's designed to trick and I got tricked.
No new boat at this time.
Sorry I led you all on in my naiveity(sp?)
