Default how is fishing off the coast?

I'm thinking of taking the family to the coast for the weekend. Renting some 4 wheelers for the dunes and doing the charter fishing gig. I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions on where on the coast is best this time of year and what to fish for. I don't get over there much. probably do an all day trip, salmon, bottom fish, or whatever is good this time of year. The kids are 12 and 14 (girls).

thanks for any info.

Just watched Grant on Channel two regarding the "no salmon" story. Man! How depressing!

The rock fishing is good, though!

Sturgeon fishing in Astoria is a good option.

the no salmon thing really touches a nerve....Just back from Seiku and Neah bay trip and Nada zip zilch Z-ROE...(No pun intended) but they said it has been one of the slowest years ever up there. We even tried the Halibut fishing and just caught Blue sharks.

My buddy went out of Yquina (sp) last week, caught two 20lb chinook and a 3 ft shark (do not know the species)

OK OK I get the hint. I assume tuna is a full day, long way out and back? I know nothing about them xcept you would need a sharp hook to get into that little can. Tell me more about tuna fishing.........

Salmon fishing has been slow over all. Bottom fishing is good just remember that the limit has dropped to five fish. Tuna are there but that's another story. Of more concern for you is not how the fishing is but how the weather is. The wind has been blowing steady so if your looking for a family day on big blue forget it. Right now it doesn't look like the weekend is going to be any better either. :depressed:

I just got back from an ocean charter fishing boat trip out of Ilwaco...14 people on the boat, 26 coho, 2 chinook (I got one!), and back by 12:15. What a great trip! The biggest thing I learned this time: when the salmon hits, strip out the line two times, then start reeling. It worked every time.
