Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
January 31st is the due date on some of the out of state draw tags. Just curious how many of you guys put in for OOS tags.
I'm trying out US Outfitters. They are kind of a tag drawing service. They hold your money in an account till you draw. They charge $120 for their service.
They do the homework on what unit to put in for and the type of hunt you are after. They offer guided hunts, but this service is just to help you draw tags, mostly in limited draw areas. I'm sure they try to sell guide services if you draw.
There are costs involved, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than booking a typical guided deal which I have no interest in.
For the $120, I think them doing the homework is worth it. I've been talking to them for a couple years and they seem to be square s*******.
Anyone else had experience with them?
Anyone else putting in for out of state elk, moose, sheep, goats etc?

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
US Oufitters isn't the square shooter you're looking for. They've been convicted of several crimes in Arizona and New Mexico here recently. A couple of the charges were locating and herding animals in the air to hunters on the ground and things of that nature. Not a good scene and that outfit does not sit well with the locals of the SW areas. They have gained enough money to lease up the majority of hunting land to be had in both of those states and it's made a pretty tempered outcome. I have a couple of friends from down there (Arizona) and they liken them similar to our Sandy haired friends from Iraq.
Using them to get tags would probably be a good deal since their knowledge of the tag system is better than out of staters, so probably no worries there, but be careful of the guide service. I personally haven't used them so I reserve my own judgement for now, but that's what I've heard from them.

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
I have suscribed with Garth Carter. For those not familiar, he produces a monthly magazine that provides information on which units to apply for in each state. He usually gives many options varying from top trophy, hard to draw hunts to easy to draw ones. Each month contains states for which the application deadline is drawing near. For instance, Jan. contained Utah and Wyoming. He also has access to lots of landowner tags. In addition he has a large data base of hunters that have drawn that particular hunt before which you can contact. There are also hunts that hunters have made deposits on but cancelled available, sometimes making for some very tempting prices. His services run $100 a year.

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
I know there are a couple of other places that do the same thing. I've never used them because I want all the info myself.
(Edit: Rell Crazy- That was the guy I was thinking about, but couldn't remember his name. I would use his service if I didn't have friends around the areas I've hunted.)
I do remember seeing US Outfitter's camp in New Mexico the last time I was down there. Lots of trucks and lots of people.
I never heard of any violations, but I could see someone doing it. We saw heard of hundreds the last time in NM and there were always bulls around.
Good luck in your draw!

I'll be applying for my annual Montana Bighorn Sheep rejection. I'll probably draw one in Montana before I ever get an Oregon tag. I've been trying for an Oregon sheep tag for 30 years!

I will be applying for Deer and Elk in Montana. Was thinking about Wa. also but the cost of two out of state hunts is a little out of reach.

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
I put in for several out of state tag each year. Over the last several years I have drawn 6 great tags. Last year, drew an Arizonia archery elk tag in one of the best units. Never guided, always a DIY trip, always a great time.

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
Thanks guys,
I went to USO mostly out of frustration. I've looked around at the sports shows and they were the only "tag service" I could find.
I can opt out if it doesn't work. I have no desire to jump in with a bunch of dudes from Illinois and Michgan along some dirt road in NM. But I was tired of being on the sidelines tag wise.
I could get the synopsis from each state, but then need info on areas etc.. Seemed like a decent deal for the service they are providing.
I appreciate the input.

I'm hunting Idaho for elk but I don't have to put in for a tag. That makes it alittle nicer.

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
Do OR Tags count as out of state?
I am still trying to get my (c)antelope tag, my antlerless tag and should get another muzzlelaoder deer tag this year.
I liked it better when I was a resident and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg to hunt.

Re: Anyone Putting In For Out of State Tags?
Gun Rod Bow,
Got the mail, I'll call sometime tommorrow.
Utah's deadline is tommorrow. Apply online if USO hasn't done that already for you. I applied for deer and moose. Only $5 per species to apply.

Lured in made his choice, keep him out! It's bad enough we have to share the Columbia with him, of course it's not that bad, he can't catch a Sturgeon!
