Default Thoughts of Newport early morning salmon fishing?

For a few hours (maybe 3) this morning, according to the Newport wind readings, the wind at Newport was tolerable. anyone else thinking of going out early for just a few hours for salmon and/or botom fish out of Newport? I might try it on Thurs or Fri, if nothing else, it may cure me of my habit of staying out all day!

Hey Ron, Skip (Netscape) and I went out and trolled for a few hours Sunday early just to take his boat out and maybe catch a Salmon..went 2 miles past the whistler saw about 5 other boats milling around with us..no wind early but pretty lumpy from the NW...Wind never really came up til around 11-12..Water got as cold as 46 according to his readings..Met the fishchecker at the dock and he told us 3 puker boats got skunked for Salmon Saturday...Does'nt mean it can't change fast...Man I wish it would calm down..Lot's of fishers chompin at the bit, lots of bigger boats in the bay crabbin...Glenn

Ron,

I'd be up for a friday morning trip for a few hours. Let's keep an eye on the wind patterns and make a call later.

I've been thinking Friday, it's the best day this week for me. And while the forecast isn't good, Friday is the best day in the courrent forecast. It's go out really early, run north a little and hope that's where the salmon are 'cause then we're coming back with the wind and waves. And we'll be be back in early for sure!

BIG tide change this weekend, Ron. How early were you figuring on going?

Well, I was hoping to go early, between 5 and 6a.m. I don't know if the CG will close the bar just 'cause of the tide change, but if the swells aren't very big, then I have a reasonable chance, at least I hope I do. If we get out, coming back in (sometime before noon) shouldn't be a problem. If we can't get out till almost 8, then it will be a really short trip!

If I go, this will be the biggest tidal exchange I've encountered since I got the boat last fall.

07/22/2005 Fri (this for for the bar at the entrance)
12:39AM LDT 9.5 H
07:53AM LDT -2.3 L
02:28PM LDT 7.1 H
07:41PM LDT 2.6 L
