Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
Try the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club, just minutes from Corvallis. It's on Boston Mill Road off of either Seven-Mile Lane or 99E. They have a centerfire range to 250 yards, 7 pistol bays, a trap range, black powder, indoor rimfire (rifle and pistol) and a clubhouse. It's nice, kept up, and safe. Good place to shoot and help others (family, etc) learn to shoot and handle firearms.
They also support lots of disciplines, such as Highpower, Silhouette, IPSC, Old West, Full Auto, Benchrest and on and on.
ARPC
If you want to go out and look around, let me know and you can be my guest.

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
What Skein said! Albany has a nice range. Good place to practice shooting uphill. Haven't been there in more than 10 years, but I used to shoot IHMSA Big Bore Silhouette down there quite a bit in the 80's.
Hey Skein,
Have you been a member there for quite a while? Just wondering if you knew a man named Terry Wright? Don't know if Terry is still shooting there or not. Haven't talked to him in years. One of the best s******* I have ever known. Did a lot of testing for several handgun manufactures back in the 80's. Even did some writing for Precision Shooting and other magazines. How about Wayne Hodges? He used to shoot there quite a bit.

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
Brshooter,
Yep, know 'em both and have shot with them both. Talk about two ends of the spectrum. Wayne is the ultimate "run what ya brung" guy, while Terry is infinitely more organized. Both of them are deadly shots, though. I cleaned the turkeys one day (rare, rare event) with Wayne spotting for me. I was plumb tickled that he was my witness. I believe the man can shoot anything!
Terry doesn't come out much any more. It may be his work schedule or it may be burnout, but I always enjoyed watching him shoot and listening to his stories. Didn't know he was a gun writer, though.
I've been shooting a lot of benchrest the last couple of years, especially since it's something my wife enjoys too. She still holds the record for the best score shot in one of the disciplines. Doggone women, they do like we tell 'em. We, on the other hand, don't listen to ourselves and blow it all too often.
Anyway, it's a great place to shoot and a great bunch of guys to shoot with.
Come down and shoot with me sometime. What's your favorite sport?

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
Skein,
Haven't done much shooting the past couple of years. Used to shoot lots of IHMSA silhouette in the 80's. I was the Big Bore Silhouette chairman at Tri-County for 4 years. The eyes started to fail a bit so I started shooting NBRSA benchrest and TCL matches around 1990. Ended up as Co-chairman of that with Mike Rydquist til he moved to Colorado. About that time, I had some health issues and couldn't get much help so we have only had a match or two the past couple of years. Got burnt out putting in all the work and not being able to shoot. Have a new chairman this year and I am going to help him out a bit and try to get back to shooting.
It's like riding a bike isn't it?

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
Skein-
Thanks so much for the info! I have been trying to locate a range since I have moved here in '98! Shooting a rifle round here is lot more difficult then back in N. Ca. Anywho, thanks a bunch with the info. Oh, and good luck on the hunt with Brad and Dave in March. I hunted with them both and some other great guys earlier this month. Top notch outfitters! Thanks again!

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
BR,
Gee, that sounds familiar. I've been running the benchrest program here at ARPC since its inception, and it's hard to run a match, watch the line, oversee the scoring, and then shut all that out so you can focus on your string. I can't do it.
I, too, have stepped down as match director, and luckily, others have stepped forward to take over my duties. I'm looking forward to doing some shooting now.
Come down and shoot with us. Our benchrest matches are on the first Sunday of the month, and alternate between rimfire and centerfire. For centerfire, we run the IBS Hunter and Varmint for Score matches. Pretty good bunch of guys, too.
Come on down!

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
I don't know much about the shooting clubs... but as for possible goose hunting areas, I have hunted quite a bit out at the two greenways in the past... the first is off of hwy 34 where Parrots Furniture is, the second is further out by buena vista. If you want more info on how to find these email me.
Also, the guy from Pickseed in the past has let me shoot on their land. They are located on hwy 34 and for the past few weeks the geese have been stacking up out there.
I have also had good luck asking some of the local land owners south of town, also around the buena vista area. Sometimes you just have to be patient and ask lots of people.
Hope this helps.

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
So besides ARPC (yearly fees are out of my interest level) are there any areas or clubs or public ranges that anyone would like to share?
I am looking for a place to take my 13yr old daughter tomorrow afternoon. this would be her first shooting outing. I woul like to make it safe but low key fun. feel free to PM if you dont want to post your "secret" spot.

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
thanks, I didnt know they allowed .22 cal. I was hoping to go to an outdoor range or just a "spot" in one of the public lands nearby this time. Ill have more money in a few weeks and we can do something more formal.

Re: Good Place to Shoot in Corvallis Area
Just a word of warning if you are going to shoot on public lands. Be aware of the fire danger during the summer. There was a fire caused by 50 cal tracer rounds last summer. I know that you probably wouldn't do that, but it did happen and can be caused by a spark on a rock even, it doesn't take much. Take this from someone who works in the woods and has seen what can happen.
