man beats a dog with a gun then gets shot

A man trying to beat his dog to death with a gun was fatally wounded when it apparently went off accidentally,police said.

Raymond poore jr.,43,called his wife at work thursday and told herthat their dog hads bitten him and he intended to kill the animal,police Capt. David Sabonya said.

The wife came home about 6pm and found her husband unconscious,with a number of dog bites and scratches. Emergency medical personnel discovered that Poore had been shot.Sobonya said Poore must have beaten the 30-pound shar-pei with the gun that went off. He said the stock of the weapon, a combonation rifle and shotgun ,was broken and there appeared to be blood and dog hair on it.

The dog was in custody of an animal control officer.Sobonya had no details on its injuries.

Same sort of thing happened several years ago just east of I-5 at Fife north of Tacoma. A young guy was jumpshooting ducks late in the day at Hylebos creek with his dog and had an old double barrel 12-gauge shotgun. The dog did something wrong so the guy bopped the dog with the butt of his gun [img]graemlins/dork.gif[/img] and one barrel went off. He was hit more or less square in one shoulder and raked across the face, spent the night lying in the swamp, nearly bled to death, but was found in time and survived.

Sounds like a candidate for a Darwin Award. Let's hope there are no children carrying his genes....
