Default XM vs. Sirius Satelitte Radio

I have finally had it with all the commercials on the local stations around here, not to mention the crappy DJ's. Has anyone looked into Satalitte Radio? I am leaning towards XM, but I wanted to hear what people thought who subscribe to either of the two. What do you think?

I have had XM for about a month now. Its nice, always have reception but there are still some commercials. Not like product commercials but just commercials telling you about different stations and such. Kinda takes some getting used to hearing music that is uncensored but for some people (like myself) I hate censored stuff anyways. All in all I like it.

I have had XM for about two weeks and I love it! I am still trying to figure everything out, but my first impression is way cool! I don't know anything about Sirius, so I can't comment on it. I have not turned on the local radio since the first day I got XM.

I've had XM for about six months. Fantastic. I can't believe I put up with the garbage over the public airwaves for so long.

I chose XM over Sirius based on the channels offered fit my personal tastes more.

I own Sirius. Got it Nov '04 from Circuit City. Love it. Why? The cost for the on-dash and home units was a bit less than the XM units of similar quality. I also own XMSR and SIRI stock. Great way to hedge my bet a little.

I'm torn.... do I go with my morning personality (Stern) and the NFL package or go with XM and get the MLB baseball package. I get the Comcast MLB package already so I'll probly get SIRIUS because I listen to Stern every day.

Went up the gorge in an XM equipped vehicle, very intermittent reception until we got past Hood River. We were told that XM sattellites are in a more southerly orbit then Sirrus sattellites, so you would recieve better reception with sirrus then XM. Also, parrotheads will prefer Sirrus as "Radio Margaritaville" is now carried on Sirrus. Jimmy Buffett - 24/7

How can u guys stand Stern anymore. I was a diehard fan for years and years but all the whining he has been doing lately has turned me off. All that guy does is complain about this guy and complain about that guy, This guys is out to get me BLAH BLAH BLAH. He should have just kept things going the way he was oh well

Chummer is correct about the satellite placement.

XM has two geosynchronous (stationary) satellites to the south. When I get into steep canyons or have large physical blockers to the south of me, sometimes I will momentarily lose reception.

Sirius has three non-geosynchronous (moving) satellites. The hope is that you have two satellites available at all times. The result is that lost reception is less frequent, but also less predictable.

Why do you think he's switching to sattelite?? Because he can't keep doing things the way he was.

Clear channel folded and paid his fines without fighting the charges because in thier quest to take over the radio world every station they buy must have FCC approval. Rather than rock the boat they paid the fine and left Stern out to dry.

So Sirius has the NFL, right? I can sit at Macks Canyon on a Sunday afternoon and still get the games, right? Sit in deer and/or elk camp and get the games? That's enough for me to go sign up right now!

XM has Pac 10 sports, as weird as this sounds a PGA channel, I actually got a kick listening to Tiger win the British Open. I have XM but also have Sirius at work, if your a rocker Sirius has a little better selection.
