We got an archery alkali mule deer tag. I've been told there are some really big bucks in that unit. My cousin and I put in together. He's going to central so he'll be scouting it hard for us.

Can't wait

Grayback B was 1st choice for deer, 2 in group, 3 points each. Successful!! I've been missing hunting in the snow, maybe this year?
3 in party for elk w/average of 6 points. Margaret - 1st choice, Toutle - 2nd. Unsuccessful. I know, we're dreaming there, but might as well go for a nice hunt that is close to home.
Goat, moose, & sheep, 6 points each - no luck.
We hit turkey last year so no luck with 1 point this year.
We did draw the spring bear hunt and hunted hard with no luck.

If I cant draw 1 of those I would rather hunt the local private properties that I have access to.

All I know about that one is it's 99% private land. And, there's a general season at the same time for bucks only. Are you just hoping to shoot a doe?

Yes, but it doesn't do a lot of good when there's 4,500 people applying for only 29 permits.

My cousin called me and let me know his buddy drew bighorn sheep in the Umtanum/Selah Butte unit. Was only 3 permits! He had 2 points. I have 8 points, along with probably at least half of the people putting in for sheep.

Well, the daughter drew a blank on youth moose hunt and rifle elk for Margaret and Toutle bull...

However it seems 10 pts was enough for a Toutle bull archery tag...Think I'm still in shock.

Off to find my unit map...(this should be cool!)

The off limits area has been decreased significantly. Check the Gifford Pinchot site for the latest. Not sure what the private companies are doing.

A lot of the closure last year was also due to fire danger.Thats just a gamble a guy is going to have to adjust to when the time comes.

I drew that tag a while back and didn't even hunt it. Remember you need to use a muzzle loader in Yale, no modern fire arms.

You can use a modern firearm...a shotgun. I'd take a shotgun with a rifled barrel over a muzzleloader any day.

My muzzle loader will out shoot a shotgun any day. no boast just fact. People that say it wont have never spent any time with a modern front loader. I know the Yale.lived in it for several yrs. send me a pm with exactly what you are looking for and I should be able to help

Well, that's debatable. But even if that's true (and I doubt it,) any good shotgun with a rifled barrel and a scope is plenty good enough in the accuracy department for shooting deer out to 150 yards. All without the hassle of having to clean it after every shot, and no worries about keeping the powder dry when it rains.

Now now we are talking about firearm restriction areas. You can use a sealed breach and 209 primers along with a powder that doesn't corriode the barrel , along with a scope. he doesn't have a muzzle loader tag. I know lots of public land.AS of 2 yrs ago there was a nice 4pt using 1 area. Can't road hunt it though

I will put my Knight 50 cal against any shot gun out to 200 yards. And i do not need to clean it after every shot. I shoot 110 grain pyrodex with a 310 grain bullet i shoot it alot anb trust my shooting.

Heh heh. Man you guys are cracking me up. I've got both a rifled barrel shotgun (no scope) and a hammer lock muzzleloader (no scope). I can't shoot as good as either one of you (lack of practice), but I do know that after about 5 shots with that shotgun I'm one sore puppy . Maybe we should have an ifish Sight-in 'tilla and you guys could settle the question once and for all!

Nobrownline - I'll definately send you a PM about your suggestions... Thanks!

My partner and I drew Grayback B with 3 points each. If any body has experience with this late buck hunt, I would enjoy hearing your stories.
