I met a guy out on SI who must have had 15 bands on his lanyard. At the time I'd been hunting for about 12 years with steady success and I only had one. This guy was about my age so it wasn't like he had been hunting for 50 years. I just assumed he hunted private land where the success rate is higher. Now you have me wondering........

Why would anyone pay that much for bands? You can buy stamped bands off the web by the 100's from banding companies very inexpensivley, I've acquired about 10 in the last 20 years, with 2 banded birds in one day. I hunted with an older guy for years in the hermiston area, He hunted EVERY day, and stayed out all day, I,d guess he had nearly 50 on his lanyard.

What are the bands you are talking about? Are they leg bands? I shot a pheasant back in Texas about 15years ago that had a band on his leg. I called it in to the TPWD and they took the numbers. They said it would allow them to track the bird. Just wondering?!

This is a joke...I got two in one day just this year. It happens. One was from Idaho the other from the N.W. Teritorries.

Ya, 1pump, whenever I see a guy at the check station with a lanyard full of bands I kinda wonder if he "earned" em' or just bought em' from somewhere. Sure cheapens their value in my eyes.

Let the bidding begin, I have a band that is actually stolen but I will sell it anyway. Heres the story.

Been hunting waterfowl for about 20 years and never gotten a band. I had three different buddies get them last year alone two of which it was their first year to hunt. One morning i am putting out the dekes when my dog Kale is running around smelling the sites when he comes accross a hen mallard that he chases down he brings it to my buddy whom starts laughing and and says hey Dan you know its really bad when your dog gets a band before you do.

That band rest very very proudly on my whistle lanyard and hopefully later this year it will be joined with three legs on his junior hunter title.

Dan!

Anybody want to buy some? Let the bidding begin...Keta and I will corner the market!

Kind of like shooting patches on your vest..I've never worn those either.

I have been hunting hard for about 8 years and I have only 1 band...and I am very proud of it.

My dad shot a bird this year that had two bands. One was the normal pewter color and the other was green. As it turns out the green one had a reward for $100. My dad said that the feds told him that it is a small program that they have going to get people interested in calling in the band numbers. They are sending him a chek. Go figure, lucky day on the island.

Filling a lanyard full of bands is possible. I have been fortunate enough to take 7 banded birds this year. They are a real trophy to me. Part of it is luck. However, I feel I have created my own luck through patience and persistance. Most bands I have taken were not by mistake.

I guess this is about the opportunity to make a buck, but what about the guy who buys the bands. Does he have a favorite band, or a story to go along with that favorite band? I have shot 5 bands in my 13 yrs or so and I vividly remember each one, inlcuding swimming for one, and the coin toss between my buddy and I cause we both smoked the bird jump shooting. The shiny bands around my neck are kind of a reward for the countless hours I have enjoyed with family, and friends. There are some things left in this world that are worth earning. Perhaps I am a bit too passionate about the sport, but the selling and purchasing of bands has got to be the most materialistic needs, and I can't stand it!
