Got Soy?? (Pics)
I took an "Extended" lunch today and ended up staying longer than I had anticipated. But, there was a good reason why. Caught both these beauties on the Pink Worm, that I soaked for a day in Soy Sauce and Sugar. The Wilson soooo low and clear, I had to try some new tactics. They were hooked in fast water, as you can see in the background. Both fish put up a good fight for the $$$. As do most smaller Steelies do. They both at least launched out the water completely 3-4 times each. But, was able to tail them both in.
Both hatchery fish. 1st fish was 26", 5lbs. 2nd fish was 25" 4lbs. I prolly fished a good hour before I got my first fish. I covered a lot of water and fished lots of holes, in the 3 hours I put in today. I saw a few guys hunkered down in holes through out the day for hours and not get anything. My advice to some of you who asked me what I am doing is..cover lots of water and work each hole you get to like it's no tomorrow. If you don't get anything after 15-20 minutes tops in a section...Move on! #2, If I see fish holding up in a hole, I will only make a few attempts to see if anything is interested. In my time, I rarely catch Steelies that I can see or are holding up. I see guys and have fishing buddies who spot fish and will sit the same hole for hours..trying to get one to strike. Ocassionaly you'll get an aggressive fish to strike. They'll spend hours and in that amount of time, I'd cover at least 2-3 river miles by then. #3 summer water is like "Frog Water", so don't forget to cover the fast.white water, not just the deep slots. It may look too fast or shallow, but it's water they like. Both the fish I caught, the water couldn't have been more than 3-4 feet deep, but flowing fast and was white. I had to add extra weight to get the worm down just right. Both hook ups were hard slams and I didn't even have time to set the hook on the 2nd fish.
Most important is too Have Fun and Learn something everytime you head out!!
Tight Lines...
Vu

Vu, you're killing me. I'm looking forward to putting your tips to good use on Sunday with Ryan Pultz trying out the latest batch of jigs. I just hope he can keep up for 2-3 river miles!

Re: Got Soy?? (Pics)
That soy sauce acts just like "pink worm cure!" It has alot of sodium that salmon/steelhead crave when they have been out of salt water for a while...what made you ever think of putting pink worms into your soy sauce??

Dude, you just crack me up with those Pink Worms.
Way to stick with what is working for you. I guess I fall into one of those guys that through the box at em after getting frustrated. But there is a lot to be said for sticking to the tired and true.
Great pics also, as always.

Nice fish. First rate pics as always. I will admit, I wouldn't mind having a job that I could take long (or never returning)lunches. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Got Soy?? (Pics)
dejawho75,
The rubber worm manufacturing companies should be paying you a huge endorsement fee for selling their product time and time again!!!!!!
Great job! It helps those of us that are not getting out to see others catching fish! You are the master of the pink worm!

Are you going to try rolling them in some Panko next time ? Great job. I miss being able to fish that river mid-week for this time of year. Great river if you know what you are doing, which you obviously do.

Re: Got Soy?? (Pics)
It's A LOT of sushi, I can't stop myself. "I'll try the freshwater eel....and an Oregon Roll....and I gotta get a few salmon...oh, and a......" It's freakin' ridiculous. I'm fully addicted to the stuff.
I like Mio Sushi off 23rd. or Saburro's off Bybee in Sellwood (although it's less "authentic", it's really good). Sorry didn't mean to hijack, like I said, I can't help myself.
Congrats on the fish. When are we going to go toe to toe, you and I. It's the battle all Ifish has been waiting for. The dejawho75's famous Pink Worm (Seducer, right?) VS. steelhead22's Pink Zipperworm (smaller and more effective). It's a battle for the ages! We'll be famous! It's your classic good guy/bad guy battle, we gotta do it, SOON. Salmonberry Jeff can be the referee/photographer...as long as there's no background shots .
P.S. I don't know what's in Miso Soup, but holy smokes, is that stuff GOOD!
Oh, and don't go on your birthday, because everyone around you start pouring you hot Saki like it's going out of style and you end up looking like an ass .

Re: Got Soy?? (Pics)
LOL!!! Mio Sushi..there's one out here on the Westside, it's my fiance's favorite place. I don't eat Seafood
That would be fun Steelhead22. We should hit the rivers sometime. I use the Berkley 6". I'd think Salmonberry Jeff would want to fish too, he'e a fisherman....I just fish  We should get a few Ifishers involved and BBQ afterwards on the river. Hook to hook..rod to rod
