PETsMART Makes Donation to Anti-Hunting Group
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The charitable arm of PETsMART, Inc., PETsMART Charities, recently made a sizable contribution to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal rights organization. PETsMART Charities has announced that it awarded a $15,000 grant to HSUS to fund spay and neuter clinics and pet care sessions in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia. However, HSUS is not a national sheltering organization, as many people believe it to be. Despite its name, HSUS does not operate or oversee any animal shelters or have any legal control over them.
In making this donation, PETsMART Charities is contributing to a leading animal rights group whose main goal is to end all animal use, including hunting, fishing and trapping. The HSUS has demonstrated its opposition to outdoor sports by encouraging its members to support legislation to prohibit hunting and resist legislation that would expand hunting opportunities. The organization calls hunting “fundamentally at odds with the values of a humane, just and caring society.”
Wayne Pacelle, vice president of HSUS and former National Director of the Fund for Animals, has been quoted by the Associated Press as saying, “If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would.”
“Sportsmen are encouraged to tell PETsMart and other businesses that support animal rights groups that they are supporting an agenda that is working to end our outdoor heritage and our traditional way of life,” said U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance President Bud Pidgeon. “When you support an organization, you support everything it stands for, not just the parts that you think are good.”
Recently, sportsmen worked to inform Accor Economy Lodging of this fact. They sent scores of comments to the company explaining how its promotion of HSUS, under the auspices that it was helping protect animals, was merely an endorsement for an organization that is dedicated to ending America’s outdoor heritage and other animal uses. Accor has since ended its relationship with HSUS.
Sportsmen and sportswomen should express their dissatisfaction with PETsMART Charities’ support of HSUS by contacting Philip Francis, President & CEO, PETsMART, Inc., 19601 N 27th Ave., Phoenix AZ 85027; Phone: 800-738-1385. You can also send comments online from the following web address: http://www.petsmart.com/servlet/Mailer.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
The HSUS funded part of the campaign in Oregon to ban baiting and the use of dogs in hunting bear and couger. I love dogs, but refuse to donate to the HSUS because of this anti hunting activity. Next you won't be able to use your retriever to fetch your kill because it's cruel to send your dog into the cold water. It's to bad this type of activity comes at the expense of homless dogs and cats.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
Ought to put this over on the main board as well, lots of dog owners out there that would not want to be inadvertantly supporting radicals.
Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
Perfict Drift You have given out information that is appreciated.
I had no idea PETsMART was donation to such an organization. I have sent them an e-mail at my dissatisfaction with them.
I buy most of my pet supplys from them and am now retinking that. It is hard to support a business that is supporting someone who is trying to destroy what I love to do.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
My 10 year old daughter has a Ball Python. Pythons eat rats and mice, I went to our local Petsmart and asked for 2 mice. They asked me what I was intending to use them for. I stated "feed for my daughters python", and you could have heard a pin drop. I did hear a mouse drop, as they released our snakes Big Mac, and informed me they don't sell "food animals" "So, our python needs to become a vegetarian" I says. This snot nosed little BLEEP says--"maybe you should rethink your choice of pets next time". Damn, I wanted to slap somebody
As I was walking out, I noticed that they sell VEGETARIAN DOG FOOD!!!!!! Now that ****** me off!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would have either been extremely proud, or horribly embarrased by my tirade about the obsurdity of trying to change tens of thousands of years of evolution by converting canines from carnivores to herbivores. By the time I was done, I had every one of their employees (or so it seemed) encircling me, and asking me to leave the premises. I gave 'em another 20 reasons why one should not toy with nature before I made my escape from this lala land of happiness and joy where dogs eat organic granola kibbles, and snakes feed on alfalfa shaped mice cookies.
I will never step foot inside another Petsmart again as long as I live.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
Wildhawg,
You got it all wrong! What you need to do is get the word out that you were in PetsMart and watched them sell a couple of innocent little mice for some guy to feed his python! Be indignant as hell, and demand that they to stop it! Sue 'em and make sure it gets in the paper. Include a picture of the mice. Everybody who reads it will judge 'em guilty and their sales will plummet. When they go out of business, their little charity will dry up too.
I've never been bitten by my lab, but I've never tried to feed her vegetarian dog food either.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
I have made my last trip to Petsmart after reading about their support of those terrorist supporting nut jobs in PETA.
Watched a interview with the head of PETA the other day on the Discovery channel (I think) anyway I came away even more convinced that they wont stop until cows and chickens have the right to vote.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
Wondering if we have even put a dent in their total sales? I sure hope so, I haven't been in their stores, don't plan to until I hear they have changed their policy of supporting THOSE groups.

Re: Peta=Petsmart
I sent them a email and they got back to me fairly quick. For the most part their email was a smoke screen and was sorry to lose my bussiness.
