Way to Go Mary's Peak Hound Club !!!

The Mary's Peak Hound Club is taking the rabbit hunt over for ODFW. The club "will conduct the hunt today without the state's involvement."(Oregon. 1/11/03). The club called all of the people who were signed up for the hunt to let them know. 20 of the 27 that were signed up said they were going to attend. Looks like the calvary came to the rescue !!

Yeah, I saw that this morning, too. Good for them!
I was glad that The Oregonian noted that it's illegal to impede hunting, just in case some bunny-hugger gets any bright ideas.

I was on the river today so missed it. Thanks for posting.

I am not typically a big fan of the Oregonian, but if they handled this fairly, and went to the trouble to point out the fact that it is unlawfull to interfere, we should take a moment and write them a thank you as concerned sportsmen.

I was there today, too...interesting for sure...it's the Sunday column tomorrow.

No picketing at all, coupla cops. very well organized (hasenpfeffer for lunch...that's peppered rabbit).

Actually, the guy who was in the rabbit suit the other day had the grit to come and see for himself and they invited him along on the hunt. He said he's not changed his mind about killing things, but he has a much better understanding and I watched him actually seem to enjoy watching the dogs work.
That took guts and there were some very friendly discussions...might have helped everyone build some bridges.

Pretty wet. I think they probably got half a dozen or more rabbits...

Excellent colum on Sunday Bill, and kudos to the hound folks. It is good to see the media stand up to this ridiculousness, rather than facilitate it. Watching Kulongoski say that he wants to bring Western and Eastern Oregon together was great, but probably almost impossible. As long as the voting power comes from the yups,tree huggers and other do-gooders, our lifestyle is in danger. Thanks again for standing up for what is right Bill.

I'm still very sad that the ODFW caved so quickly, but I guess I understand the reasons for it. That's great someone else took up the slack....but it's still another battle won by the "huggers" in a very long war.

So true, Rogue, about the ODFW caving in so quickly. Kinda washed their hands of it. I'm going to try to call Lindsey Ball tomorrow and stay with it until I get him - I want to hear his side of the story. I have always been a supporter of his, but this one left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Here's how I see the score:

Hunt was stopped - Anti's won
ODFW tucked tail and hid - Anti's won
Hounds' Club Holds Hunt - small, underdog group soldiers on... (imagine local bookseller vs Border's Books)
I get furious with ODFW - Anti's won (at least they like it that we may be fighting among ourselves)
I will be less likely to support Lindsey Ball after this - Anti's won (see reason above)

I'm going to try to borrow the bunny suit and protest when the heavy equipment pours in to clear that nice little piece of habitat for the new Walmart Super Store in Lebanon. Wonder how far I'll get? Wonder how many of them will join me?

I am sickened and saddened by this whole episode.
