What are you fishing for? If it is steelhead I think it starts in August.

I'm a die hard salmon and steelhead guy but I'm going on my first redside trip on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm pretty pumped because I get to row some new water and spend a couple of nights camping with some buddies.

Then it's back to the "Green Light Hole" for me at the end of August.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm going on a Boy Scout Campout at the mouth this weekend and was hoping a few steelies might be hanging around.

Pearl, I'll be up there at the park Friday nite if your taking out at the mouth. Blue Dodge with a Lance camper on it. Stop by and say hi.

Hey Pearl. We camp at the next spot ( 1/4 mile ) down from the green light hole. I sure love that area. Good for both steelies and red sides. There are fish in the extreme lower river right now and it just gets better into September.

Seaweed,

We will dominate the steelhead competition this year! This is your early warning not to be too upset at the crack steelhead team that we have assembled that will quash the competition. (Especially McNOSteelhead)

And no, that's not the 5 or 6 margaritas talking!

OPEN PIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait!

There's definately fish in the lower river.I have a friend that went 3 for 5 last week on silver spinners. The lure of the Deschutes is a beckoning. There's no finer place on earth I'd rather spend time at.Robin,it's time for you to shed the tennis skirt and don the fishing vest.

Robin " CRACK " is the operative word here. Put the CRACK pipe down and back away slowly. We will dominate again just like last year. We were pretty good in the horseshoe pit however.

Chairhunter,

5 of us took my sled down this past weekend and fished for steelies from Dike down to Harris. Perfect conditions, cloudy good water temps and vis, but no fish. Very little traffic on the upper river and only saw one sled up from the mouth on Saturday. We fished only virgin water all weekend, with no luck. Wondering if the cool water temps on the CR are slowing the up river migration??? It's a little early, but for the numbers over the Dalles we were optimistic, and typically get a few fish up there on the 4th every year. I guess I will wait a few more weeks and try again

We are actually all very good friends but we compete intensly ( until the alcohol takes it's toll ). Each boat is a team. We compete fishing , on the horse shoe pit, one club sand golf, even who cooks the best meal. That is the best part, I mean we are talking filet and eggs with memosa's for breakfast looking at the beautuful Deschutes canyon with your good buds. And we catch a lot of chrome. It doesn't get any better.

Bauer Boy, I couldn't tell ya. I'm heading down there tommorrow for a couple hours when my dad gets home from vegas (no Funny Ideas, he works there for a helicopter company). Anyways, I'll either head down to copper dam, or under and around the interstate bridge, can't decide yet, but probably the interstate. I haven't fished there in a while, and it's always fun to wade. The fish are just starting to come in so I'm gonna see if I can catch an overachiever early bird...I mean fish. Anyways, I'll let you know how I do.

Seaweed,
Can I get you several Mermosa's first thing in the morning. You can chase that with some "coffee creamer".
When you are done quenching your thirst at noon, you can roust McNOSteelhead from the sack and go try to catch some steelies.

We will be back at camp with limits aplenty working on our horseshoe skills. And drinking cold umbrella drinks.

I love the smell of victory first thing in the morning!
Not to mention that single seat room with a view! It doesn't get much better!

DESCHUTES U!!!!!!!
