Flippin\' distance?
How far away do you try to keep from your target when you're flippin'?
I'm not very good at flippin' yet, and feel like I get too close...
Maybe a flippin' stick would help...
How about pitchin' distance?

Re: Flippin\' distance?
flipping distance is about 2 rod lengths away, being this close it's obviosly a dirty water or very heavy cover technique
Pithing on the other hand takes the place of flipping in clearer water and where target placement isn't quite as critical i'll pitch up to 40 feet or so..

Re: Flippin\' distance?
Taught bucketmouth how to pitch back in May. We were getting plus or minus six inch accuracy at 60,70 feet using a half ounce practice plug. No brag; just fact.
With this shoulder injury, pitching is much easier on the arm than "normal" casting. Try it, get proficient at it; you'll like it.

Re: Flippin\' distance?
Im not experienced in flipping, I really would like to explore it but I am not usually on a boat. What about flipping from a pontoon boat or somthing of that nature? What would yall recommend as far as first steps in learning the technique?

Re: Flippin\' distance?
Sanz learn to pitch flipping just ain't gonna happen from a pontoon you sit too low to the water pitching might however be possible.

Re: Flippin\' distance?
I use both Tufline XP 6/20 and Fusion 6/10. Can't recall what Rich had on his reel but he was zinging it out there as well.
My main reels are a Cabela's Prodigy and a Shimano 251 tricked out with ABEC 7 bearings and yellow Rocket Fuel. Even my Shimano BeastMaster 2-speed is capable of some distance as well. On all, the tension is backed off so that the spool will just wiggle when moved side to side. Magnetic control is set to about 20%. If you have removable magnets like what's found in the Curado, take out every other one.
The rods are a new Shimano Compre 6'6" Med with a very fast tip and an old BPS 6'0" ML IM-7 (too bad BPS changes blanks so often; I'd love to have a couple more). Since I often flip when wading, the rod tip is at about 7:30 rather than closer to vertical. To attain 70 feet, the trajectory has quite an arc; 5,6 feet. But out to 50', the plug's not more than a couple of feet off the surface.
You can flip with a spinner as well. The first time some of my buds saw me do so when trout fishing to place the lure under some trees, it was, "What the #### kinda cast was that"?
I practise ALOT and use an empty tuna fish can as a target; somtimes I'm rewarded with a satisfying "dink". That's about the only time a dink gives me a thrill; not counting my own "personal attribute".
