Default Bandon bottomfishing

I am wondering if anyone has been bottomfishing outside of bandon and Charleston. We just got a boat that we can bottomfish our of and we have no idea what to do. We were wondering if anyone had any tips or GPS locations we should try?

Where you located at?

I guess i'd be the guy to talk to about bottom fishing out of bandon....

I'd look up tailchaser, diamondback, outdoorspecops for charlie town...

Go over the bar, if you dare.. go to first can.. hang left go straigt towards the rock you see splashing.. nice rocky reef area all over there.... also out around the 2nd can there are high spots. If ya want more precise locations, You can follow me out some day here soon when she lays down..

We go down there every year for two weeks in July/August and stay at Bullards Beach. We crab, chase tuna, salmon fish, bottom fish, clam and have an occasional adult beverage. There is a place called Coquille Rock (43*07.904N/124*27.820W) that is always good for bottom fishing. It is a very short drift because it is not very big but it comes to within about 30' of the surface. Try that and anywhere south from there where you see structure on your depthfinder (there's lots of it).

tuna report?? we have tuna?

hahah... salmon is slow.. they have all dived into deeper water.. last time I checked there was 63 degree water 11 miles out.. with rumors of tuna being caught as close in as 14..... These are rumors I have yet to go myself, or anyone I know to go. We are kind of waiting for someone else reliable to do the exploratory trip.. becaues we are cheap and don't want to pay for a day's gas to find the fish only to tell everyone else where they are..

also be warned... crabbing SUCKS this year.... very VERY few keepers are being pulled out of the coquille, and the ocean crabbing is at best lousy.. :depressed:

but bottom fishing is rocking.. if you know where to go.

Thanks for the report Lepper.....I'll be down there on 7-21 and going out in pursuit of something on the 22nd.....that's too bad about the crabbing because we usually have crab something for 2 out of the 3 meals a day while we are there.

We tried to go out of Bandon today but it was too rough. The bar had huge white breakers acroos it early this morning. The coast guard had the flashing lights going. I did see a 21-25 footer cross the bar though. I thought that was against the law and they could be ticketed for that???? He looked like he was getting the crap beat out of him by the chop and swells. It did not look like fun to me.
