What are you looking for? Easy hunt, quality bull, just a bull, a cow within drive of portland? Mill creek watershed is nice, wenaha is great, but you'll need a few more points. There are a couple ideas for a start. i also heard that way far southern oregon near the CA border can be good as well.

Going with archery equipment, 5pts. will allow you a sure thing draw for the Mt. Emily unit and a very good chance drawing for Walla Walla. It would take several more years to draw Wenaha. Good bulls in both units.

The thing about these hunts is that they are made out to be a trophy hunt, but ODFW still allows spike and cow hunting at the same time. Plan on plenty of other people around on any hunt.

I have the 5 pionts looking for a bull hunt that you stand a good chance at a nice bull. i have been putting in for cow hunts on the west side for 5 years. i am a bow hunter so i dont hunt much in the fall. grow up as a kid hunting the halfway area rifle hunting just dont seem to be the bulls over there like there use to be looking for a new area.

How about the Starkey Experimental Forrest? It's a little different hunting but you will not see more trophy elk in Oregon. It's not as easy as many people think. The Wenaha is the *hit though...VERY hard to get. One of these days...

If I had that many points and was an archery hunter--I would DEFINITELY go for the Walla Walla unit==They whacked a couple of dandy bulls out of there this year! My partner took one that went 324 gross 314 net this year and it made that one look like a dink!

I though my little 4x4 was a treat with this years conditions but somebody.....somewhere always seems to get a nice one!

I am and Archery hunter, and I have 7 preference points. Only one unit I am applying for, and I still probably won't see that tag for a few more years. You know which on I'm talking about boys, Wenaha all the way!
