Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Hi,
My name is Ryan and i have a goose hunting problem. I skip work, dates, and school to chase geese. I spend money that is earmarked for school on dekes, blinds, and flags. I sit in the mud for 8 hours, get hypothermia and swear off it for the rest of the year, only to go 2 days later. I haven't killed a bird in 2 of the last 3 trips, causing me to go into a state where I habitually watch Tim Grounds videos over and over again. This state has lead to many crazy reoccuring ideas, most involving James bond Gadgets and mass death on a bird that I really don't even like to eat. In years past, this has lead to shooting geese out of trees, Cow decoys, etc...
I was wondering if there was any help for someone with my problem? (tried drinking, it didn't work, but on a couple mornings it did add to the EXPIRIENCE (Misery).
Just wondering if there is a patch, pill, Hypotisim, or meetings for this problem?
Thanks
WRO, a goose hunting addict.
P.S. This does fit the clinical definition of an addiction because the addict spends all of his time chasing the mythical day he once had.

WRO.. it's not that you or I have a problem, addiction or other affliction. EVERYONE else on the planet has their priorities messed up and should hunt/fish more.

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
I...uh...know a guy like that. He....he....hangs around the dekes at Sportsman's Warehouse, and has been caught at home alone, watching Whistling Wings videos with his arm around his dog. I'd ....uh...like to help him, but just can't get through to him. It's ... it's... not really an addiction, it's ....uh... well, I don't know what it is. I do know it's hard to talk to him because he's always practicing on some duck or goose call and wants you to keep your head down and stay still.
And he carries a gun.
Can you help my friend?

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
What's with you guys? Are you out of it or what? Don't you realize that you are of an elite group who still have all their marbles? You have been successful in putting first things first. Don't mess with a good thinking. Next thing you know yyou will want to go to the mall with the little woman and spend your day shopping. Snap out of it ! You are among the lucky ones. Keep on hunting! Ending the season is a giant conspiracy against REAL men.

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Even if I wanted to, I don't think I could stop. Those brown ******** torment me in my dreams. Yes, I have considered taking the high road and shooting a dusky just to spare myself and my buddies from this endless cycle of getting up early, getting cold, getting wet, and then once out of my hypothermic trance, doing it all over again but I can't. I think I need more/less decoys to leave/take my FA and other great thoughts like that every day.
Its sad, when the little woman asks me about my fantasy, my reply is a midget, 5 dozen decoys, My FA blind, and waves and waves of honkers... (give or take the Midget)
My idea of a good weather involves 20 mph winds and sideways rain.
It has twisted my mind. I might just need a steelhead shot to clear my mind (atleast then I will like nice weather) Or maybe I'll take up marlin fishing, I am sure I can troll for marlin and pass shoot geese. I ummm am going to ummmm go plan my next hunt now.
Ryan

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
WRO,
Sorry to hear about
you deserve what you get for preventing other peoples
1) Suggestion to improve your hunt/take ratio..don't hunt with GRB anymore...he'll just drag you down to his level.
2) I'm sure the paternal status of your quarry would be less in question if you hadn't "shot his pa".
3) I'm not sure where the midget and the FA blind fit together...hey wait a minute
4) I prescribe more drinking...purely to prevent hypothermia. Remember to choose a designated driver, or putter.
5) Don't shoot a dusky just to give yourself an easy out..suck it up, be a man, get out there and lay in that mud!!

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
GRB,
I am not letting you off that easy come on now. I have already decided that your bad luck, but you are only slightly more sane than me when it come to killing geese, you know what they say junkies generally hang out together. Also even if I wanted to kill a dusky I would be hard pressed to hit one  .
By the way it has been alot of fun hunting with you, even if we don't kill ****. Although we seem to allow someone who goes with us to kill birds Hey if just the 2 of us go I bet wade will get to kill a goose  . I am going to Reno this weekend but I'll get in touch when I come back on Tuesday.
On second thought, does anybody know where to kill geese in the Reno area?

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Outlaw,
Big pond, just east of 15E, just south of I-90. You'll know your in the right place because guests at the Hilton drive golf balls into it!
BTW I actually killed two all by myself on the day you weren't there. No really..I did...Wade will swear to it...or I won't let him ride in the front of the truck anymore. Am I your hero now?
I'll let you know how the weekend goes.
I admit it...the addiction is stronger than me... there's no help...save yourself

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Other symptoms of being a goose hunter...
1. If you have (nearly) caused multi-car accidents on major roads/freeways while trying to rubber neck and see which field the birds are working while driving.
2. If you have been (repeatedly) smacked by your wife while attempting the above.
3. If you have ever had geese fly over your house and run in to get the call and start honking at them from the street.
4. If you have ever gotten out of bed in the middle of the night when you heard geese flying over your house. (Do not combine this with number 3).
5. Your wife thinks you and the dog have lossed your marbles because the two of you sit staring at the sky for no apparent reason.
6. You keep spare calls in the rig to practice with while driving.
7. Your favorite channel is the weather channel and you hug the TV when a storm is coming.
There may be other symptoms present and being a goose hunter is highly contagious. If you believe that you are a goose hunter you should find others who are sick too and go goose hunting.

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
I don't see much of a problem except for not getting any birds. Blame it on your hunting buddies and what good does the money if you can't spend it.

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Ryan:
You could always do what us Tunaholics have done... hold a meeting once a month to talk about our affliction. Of course, if you're expecting something like that to cure your disease, you're probably wrong to do so.
Oh! I've got it! Why don't you come to our Albacore Anonymous meeting? Then maybe you'll have something to distract you from the geese?
Just a thought.
Anyway, here's the info in case you decide it might help  http://www.ifish.net/ubb/ultimatebb....;f=21;t=000804
of course, you don't have to be a tunaholic to attend... all ifishers welcome.

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
If this is the Ryan I think it is you may want to try using shells that make it further then 15 feet past your barrell. taht is if you use to work at GI Joes.
I think the medicine you are looking for is; five dozen full body decoys (DSD or Hardcores), three Pro Guide Elimanator and a case of 3 1/2" tungsten Iron. Not to mention a new Benelli SBE. By the way skookum pond is flooded ag ain.

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
steeliehunter (sean),
Drop me an email we should go out and hunt again. I have some decent fields lined up, a couple of FA's and few dozen dekes. ********* has had a few birds on it lately (mostly westerns) I might give it a try later on this week or next, any ways let me know.
I gave up on shotgun shells and strictly throw rocks right now  .

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Ryan
What you need is to keep the FA, keep calling and 3 dozen of Dave Smith Decoys! I gunned behind 3 dozen of'em new years day and we hammered! 24 in 2 hours! Don't let the bad days bring you down, if we got limits every time we went out it would be called killing not hunting! Hang in there!!!

Re: Goose hunters ananymous meetings.
Yes I agree on the Dave Smith decoys (DSD) but six dozen. It took use maybe 5 minutes to get 23 birds and five more to get one more for our limit. Its amazing to have few hundred birds in your spead by ten to eight. Ryan where are your fields? We have been doing pretty good at the one I took you to last year and I have evan more property on the west side of the river. Sometimes its tough to decide where to hunt. I think we can work out a hunt, I might give you some shells just so I know they work. Must be rough shooting blanks at your age. I send you a email.
