Default new to summer run

In the spring I fish around St Helens. I have friday off and want to get out. I have heard I should go to Goble and go to the washington side of the river. Is there a spot closer to St. Helens so I don't have the longer drive and can use a much nicer launch

Thanks for the help. I haven't been able to fish for the last few months as I was just hired as a head football coach. I have a chance and need to get out and relax.

It's a choice between a longer drive and a longer boat ride. Launching in Scappoose Bay (nice launch and parking) or St Helens (not so nice launch or parking) will add some time to run down the river.

Goble is only about 10 miles farther than St Helens and I don't think the ramp is so bad, besides being only one lane, hardly any dock and steeper than a cows face. Lots of parking, as long as you get there first. I fish out of there sometimes so I don't have to drive the boat from Scappoose bay, I refuse to use the ramp in st.helens

Thanks for th input. Do you think Goble area is the better spot? I just need a break from football and the river is the best spot. I am a new first year head coach and am just burnt out. The tides look perfect to anchor up and relax

Fished St. Helens area saw a one of the locals just above me and inside a bit inside(shallower) from where I was in about 30 foot of water get one on what I'm guessing was a spinner right about first light(5:30ish) on the monday. We got one hard take down drive-by about an hour after the guy above us landed his and then nada. We were in 35 foot at high tide tide and after a couple of hours decided to move further up river as the guy I took along hasn't fished on the BigC before and was getting a bit "green" from the wopping 1.5 ft wind waves.

We ended up marking some fish in about 30 ft of water further up river, dropped anchor and fished the remainder of the tide with no bumps but watched the guy in line below us appear to lose one at the boat.

Forgot to mention...we fished spinners and wobblers. Take down was on a Red/White blade spinner, brass back with red beads.

I fished around the mouth of the lewis on the 5th. Big nada and no fish seen. I started at 8am - there could be a morning bite (early) but don't count on fish later from what I've seen.
Good luck

I fished the washington side in 24' of water. My youngest son was with me and when we arrived at 7:30 he promptly announced that today was going to be his day. I have been trying to get him a fish for a couple of years. He is 10 years old and doesn't have patience yet! At 8:30 he announced that we should go home because he was bored. I told him that we would wait til 10:00 before we went home. Ten minutes later his rod was pinned and I handed him the pole. He landed a chrome bright steelhead about 11 pounds. He showed everyone his fish. He then said Dad I told you today was the day. I think I was more excited than he was. When we got back to Scappoose bay marina, I had him hold the boat while I got the truck. When I got back There were several people looking at his 20 pounder.

I have seen people using flatfish, spin-n-glo's and spinners successfully on the Columbia summer-runs.

hope this helps.
