birds, where and when?
Anyone else feeling like putting away the dekes till next year? I feel like it, oh there are birds around for sure but is it worth the effort. Each week that goes by, I say to myself, maybe this week the birds will show in large numbers but they haven't. Is it wise to let them travel on and make babies for next year or are they still up north waiting to move down. Questions I ask myself. I remember the skies being dark with birds, what happened to them or they still up north, did they pass in the night or are the studies showing good reproduction a bunch of who-ie.

Not sure where your hunting at.......
I've been seeing birds up and down the valley with numbers increasing over the last three weeks. All on public waters

Re: birds, where and when?
Perfect,
You're not alone. Typically around here I've done the best on ducks in December and even late November. All depends on weather though, and we haven't had much.
It's not JUST that I'm a lousy hunter. All my buddies have the same story. I would say in the last week or so it went from, almost completely duckless, to theres a few here and there.
I saw the most ducks yet today. But the numbers I saw today should be more typical of mid November.
I put a post on the "duck call" strand, I mentioned that at the goose check station at Amity, I checked two birds at 4:00 pm, and they were the ONLY birds on the sheet. The checker said it has been really slow. :depressed:
PS I've got a buddy over in Hermiston that has been watching, he's getting a few in the corn in the eves, but his buds aren't doin much on the river. When we used to hunt that alot, we wouldn't even think about hunting the river until all the local ponds were satying frozen all day, that was usually around Thanksgiving. It has been BALMY. Good Luck

Re: birds, where and when?
We stopped about 11 AM, plenty of ducks flying................just the wrong kind.....pens.
Couple of geese as an aside..........better than watching football in my book....... 11 birds for five of us...........poor but better than some.
Lets hope we get a cold snap !!!!!!!

Re: birds, where and when?
Perfect-
Shoot me an email in about a week and I'll show you where all them ducks have been hanging out in OR.
I lost a water pump this morning on my motor, so I'm tearing it down now and hoping I didn't do any internal motor damage. Kickers are Priceless!! I'n hoping to have it fixed before the 11th.
