Default Hosmer 4th weekend (pic)

Packed up the family and headed to camp and fish Hosmer for a couple days for the 4th of July weekend. Grandma came along too and helped watch the little one while dad and mom fished Had plenty of fun and frustration trying to play with those big brookies and Atlantic salmon. Caught plenty of both (and saw many, many refusals) primarily on a small beige leech pattern. Friday and Saturday were very good to me with this big brookie being my best fish
 man are they little pigs!

There was a decent callabaetis hatch after lunch and the Atlantics were cruising for emerging nymphs and duns both. They were also visibly picking off migrating damsel fly nymphs. I stood up on my toon and cast to cruising fish like it was flats fishing!
Always a fun visit and nice camping.

Very nice fish. I love that place.

I was having no success one time when a guy paddled by and said he caught a bunch on a white leech. So I cut a strip of cloth from my handkerchief and lashed in onto a weighted nymph with tippet material, cast it out into the pod of fish that had been ignoring me and immediately caught a fish.

Thanks for the report.

That is a pretty fish. Now my itch to get up there is causing me to break out in hives. Thanks

Hosmer has had my number to date. 2 atlantics that released themselves short of the net. My best memory is getting a rise midday on a griffiths gnat, water like glass. No activity but a curious looking ring pattern from a distance that I pretty much figured was a dragon adult tapping the water. Kicked over to the area, sat and nothing. Noticed 2 emerging midges and a mayfly schuck. Opted for the 2 over the 1 and tossed the gnat next to a floating stick. Slurp - miss - rats. Still made me happy inside that I was able to fool one of them triple phd fish temporarily.

Once again congrats on the fish.

Try that white leech on a 14' leader late in the season for best results.
