How has the hunting been?
With work and all I have not been out to the lake I hunt on Sauvie Island, so I am asking anyone other then Tilla for a report. Bigshark, Labsforme or any other hunter would be ok. The fact is Tilla will not give me a stright report .
Thanks everyone.

Re: How has the hunting been?
Yahoo! my first post and I get to talk about duck hunting!
I live pretty close to the river in Newberg. I know around my area with the water out in those newly seeded fields the ducks go out and feed wherever they want. The last time I hunted there we good birds flying about 45 minutes before shooting ended I think they come back to roost on the bigger water.

Re: How has the hunting been?
Hunted out of St. Helens yesterday. We got two ducks, but they were about all we saw. No geese to speak of either.

Re: How has the hunting been?
Not sure about Sauvie but in my neck of the woods its stinky, awful, and horrible ! HAve hunted 4 days in the last week and haven't fired a shot. Where are the birds ! I think I'm going to strictly chase geese the remainder of the season. Hope you find some birds.

Re: How has the hunting been?
I don't need to give you a straight report, your too sick, anyway anything your taking in is going straight out , uh, well, it's not sticking around for long anyways. And that's according to you!
There are no new birds, the birds are not desparate, hungry or cold and do not need us!

You aren't missing anything on the east side of the island. Pretty poor is the best way to describe it. About a dozen birds a day for 6 to 8 hunters. We are taking turns being sick and thats the highlite.............stay home and sleep in. Next week I will hunt each day so that I can get a medicinal hot buttered rum to keep from any threat of a recurring bout of sniffles.

Re: How has the hunting been?
When do we need to buy another hunting license? Are they good to the end of the season or do we need another this week?

Re: How has the hunting been?
You need a new license on Jan. 1 but your duck stamps are good thru the season.

Re: How has the hunting been?
Make sure when you get a new license to get HIP validated now and get your old license back because you still need a signed federal duck stamp in possession.

Re: How has the hunting been?
Chiming in again,
The goose hunting has been hit and miss. It's been either limits or 1 bird.
I hunt mostly Yamhill and Marion counties, mostly for geese. Really been seeing very few ducks in the north end of the valley. Been getting a few into the goose dekes, but usually not more than 1-2 or 0 per trip. Hearing the same about the south end.
It sure seems like the geese are moving area to area in big groups. One day you'll see thousands fly off and they keep moving for an hour or more. A few days later their done in 15 minutes.
Been working the past few days around Troutdale and seeing tons of those ones that never get hunted. Today I never saw a goose. With all the heavy rains I think they may have dropped down into the valley to take advantage of all the new surface water. While scouting this afternoon actually saw a few little bunches of ducks.
Was considering a trip to the lower Columbia for ducks tomorrow, but found a good pile of geese that are just asking for it. We're gonna give em a whack in the morning.
Happy New Year All!
