Re: Coyote hunting weather?
If you're going to go as far as Burns, I'd suggest heading on up toward Seneca and working that valley as well. There's lots of coyotes up there and I don't think they get educated as much as those closer to the bigger cities. If you're figuring on staying at a motel, you're not really very far from Burns, and if you have a camper or trailer, then there's lots of places to camp.
Another area is north out of Mt. Vernon up toward Long Creek. Anyplace you can get to (depending on snow level) should hold coyotes. We saw lots of them while we were elk hunting up there this year, but I didn't hunt them because I was concentrating on my winter's meat supply. I will certainly go back when I have a chance, though.
They should be answering a howler right now, so if you have one don't hesitate to use it. If you've never tried howling, it's worth the time and effort to learn. Nothing like hearing one (or a pack) howl back at you. We go out at night and howl, and if we get an answer, mark the place and come back in the daylight. It's a kick.
Good luck, be safe, and have fun. Oh, yeah, a report might be nice, too.
