Default 2005 Honda 200 Flush Port

Went to flush the salt from my brand new Honda engines this weekend and found that the 9.9 worked fine with ear muff style flusher.

The 200 however would not pickup water from the muff.

The manual says to flush using the flush port on the starboard side of the engine for 10 minutes.

Thats fine and dandy, easy to to connect to garden hose and all, but the manual also says not run the engine using the flush port or damage could result.

What good is a flush port that will not let you run the engine?

Can this possibly provide a complete flush? Seems to me the minute cold water hits the thermostat it would close and you would never flush the top end.

What do the techs use to supply water to the motor when tuning???

I believe the flush port is on the power head side of the thermostat.. There is some spring loaded valuing that opens under water pressure from your garden hose, this allows a thorough flushing of the complete engine.

At least that was what I was told when I questioned the Honda rep (Not the Dealer but an actual Honda Rep) about the same thing concerning my Honda’s

If your 9.9 is 2001 or newer and has the round cowling then it has a flush port also.

When the techs need to run the engine at the service center that I use they place the engine in a tank that is designed to raise and lower from the floor, they back the boat trailer near the tank then lower the outboard and raise the tank around the engine.

Do not run your motor with the gargen hose hooked up to the flush port or you will fry your impellar (SP ). The lower unit part where your impellar is does not really get flushed out that well doing this. Ear muffs is the only way to go but the garden hose flush is a good half arse way to flush your motors when your are moored. Just raise your motors out of the water for best results.

Do it as Honda recommends, or you may void your warranty if the engine has probs in the future. I like to stop at a freshwater boat ramp and back the boat in fire both engines for a few minutes. Much easier, and the engines get a good flush.

It works you don't need to have them running. I think Yahmi is the same.

I had to do that with the jet pump. Inconvenient pain in the arse.

Devils lake is packed in the summer months and there always seems to be an idiot trying to load his 16ft ski boat for 20 minutes!

Thanks for the replys. The Honda rep should know what he's talking about.

I didn't see a flush port on the kicker, but then I can't say I was looking for one either.

Fishplay, You have to buy Honda’s screw in Flush port adapter to use the Flush port on your kicker.

The Honda manual is correct in saying not to run your engines with the flush port connections, it will damage the impellers.

I bought Honda’s adapter for my big engine but I didn’t get the one for my kicker.

When I try and flush my kicker with the ear muffs the tattle tail stream is very weak so I don’t trust doing it that way. If I have to start my kicker here at home I have an 8 gallon pail that I use instead; the tattle tail stream is very strong doing it this way. If I have to start my 90 hp Honda at home the ear muffs work fine.

With all of the above said, I pretty much always flush my engines at the fresh water ramp 3 minutes from my home…I think they get a better flush..W.A.
