Default Fern Ridge

2 weeks ago I was hunting at Fisher Butte and saw hundreds of pintails, of course it was right after the closure. It was real frustrating but also nice t see that many at once. I am planning on a hunt tomorrow and am wondering if anybody has been there lately and could possibly give me a report.

mrduckman,

i was out there yesterday. i hunted a blind out by shorelane (far side of gibson island f/ royal). saw more birds out there yesterday than i did in the week prior combined. if you went, how was your hunt. we heard a lot of shooting coming from the south side of gibson island near the amazon unit i believe. we had some birds working that flaired when they took some shots...but that's how it works i guess.

Oregonwrestler,
I went on saturday and was amazed by the amount of people who cannot judge distance, Sometimes I think the shot will not even go that high. I think there is some kind of conspiracy to screw up my hunting trips. I got there early to get this particular spot that I like to hunt. At daylight the birds were not flying like I had hoped they would, but an hour into it things started to happen but everytime we would get birds to work us someone would fire at long range at our working birds, I know it is public hunting but there has to be some kind of common courtesy to your fellow waterfowlers. I guess I can't expect to much. Sorry to vent but there was this one person who must of cost us 5 or 6 different groups of mallards and it was very frustrating. My father has a controlled fern ridge hunt on wed. the 1st maybe it will be better. Thanks for response.

mrduckman,

i know exactly how you feel. i bet it was probably the exact same group that probably cost us some birds as well.

i'm guessing your controlled hunt will be at the coyote unit. i went there on the first day that the controlled hunts were available there. we got 5th pick and took blind 3west in freshly flooded corn. well, it took my brother and i until 8:30 to limit out with 14 mallards. i hope you have as good as luck as we had.
