Default sunday newport report: salmon and bottomfish

Silverfish left south beach about 6 a.m. this morning with fishgitter, ultramag and his fiance, and myself on board.

Trolled for salmon after we were about a mile form the jaws, no luck so moved further nw and started trolling again after we charted a school of bait. Got one chinoook about 8 a.m., no others even after trolling for a while, so finally went to seal rocks for bottomfish. Ended up with some lings, cabezon, and black rockfish in addition to the one nice salmon. Nice day on the ocean.

did see quite a few salmon carcasses in the dumpster at the carking station by the brewery, so somebody did well today on the salmon.

Hi Ron,

You guys motored in by us at Seal Rk just as we were finishing up.

We tried hali in the morning with NO success before we moved down to SR.

We had 4 lings, two blacks, 1 china, and a vermillion.

Pretty slow fishing in my opinion.

I have never seen so many boats targeting bottomfish. Must be because the salmon SUCKS.

The boats around us weren't doing any better as far as I could tell.

There were a couple charters in the same drift and we watched them for a bit....very little action on board.

Had another oustanding day on the water with Ron aboard the Silverfish. That is an oustanding fishing platform. I can hardly wait until we can go get Tuna!
Wonderful weather and new friends to enjoy it with.

AnnaLisa (I hope I got that right ) with her first ocean salmon.

Thanks again Ron for having us aboard on Sunday. Analiese and I had a great time with you and Fishgitter on the Silverfish. Great weather, great company, and we even got into some fish

No major problems with the boat, but allot of little things need corrected.

When I find some time I'll make a post covering everything.

Biggest issue is the amount of water leaking into the bilge.

Hoping it's just a through hull fitting.

Maybe some folks get all those little problems fixed, but I seem to keep getting at least one new one a trip. Often small things, but gotta keep track of them and fix 'em.

I usually have the radio on 78, give me a hail the next time you see me out there. I often go to seal rocks for bottom fish as I put my crab traps down south of the bar and that's also where 4 of the 5 salmon that have come in the boat this year were caught.

thanks fishgitter for posting the pics, she did a good job on that salmon! I enjoyed fishing with the 3 of you on Sunday.
