Newport bottom fishing report?

Hey All....a couple buddy's of mine are planning on doing some bottom fishing out of Newport this next Thursday and Friday (water and weather permitting)and they had an open seat so I was more than happy to say "heck yeah count me in!" So is anyone doing any good fishing for Lings or Seabass?

My buddy that owns the boat has never fished out of Newport so this is a bit new to all of us so any advise would be more than welcome! With any luck I will post some pics and the rookie report if we get into some.

Bottom fishing has been good for a while...lots of lings.
I don't knoiw the boats capabilities but down in the seal rock area has been good. Blacks at 40-100 feet and Lings mostly out in the 60-100+ feet. Fish finder helpful but there are a lot of pinicles and rocky areas so hit and miss can be helpful. Watch the other boats for help but please don't crowd them. Have fun and happy eating.

WP is right, bottom fishing off Seal Rock is pretty good. and there are plenty of spots, so there is no need to crowd anyone. Pay attention to your ff though if you have one, the bottom can change depth quickly: more than 20 feet in less than a minute of drift, easy to get hung on the bottom. if you want some nice lings, use a big bait.

Thanks for the help guys! If we get into some fish I will post some pics. I just hope the water will be in good shape so we can make it out and get some lings!
