Default Disabled hunter needing advice

I am a disabled hunter with cow tags for the NE Trask unit. I have only the weekends to hunt and after looking at tthe maps I still can not figure out where to go.
Has any one out there ever hunted this area?
I sure could use some helpfull info on where to hunt.

I can't really help you out with actual locations...I've hunted here and because I too am disabled, I usually take a stand and let my buddies beat the brush...My question is this to you...I just received a disabled hunters "license" and I'm under the belief that if it's bull season, I can basically shoot cows, bulls or even calves (Which I wouldn't do!) Is the cow tag any different? Or, if it's a cow tag only, then you are only allowed to shoot a cow and not a bull!? I'm still recovering and just beginning to want to get back to hunting although I'm fairly limited. I hope someone can help you with your question about the best place to go...In a few months, I hope to be able to get back out there an do some hunting, too!

My Father and Grandfather are both Disabled hunters......The way we understand it is with a bull tag they can shoot either a LEGAL bull or antlerless elk with a bull tag. With an antlerless tag its still just that one anterless elk no bulls. Same thing with the deer tags.

I dont know the area but good luck with your hunt Salmon 1!!

'Looks like you must have the 214E1, 2 or 3 tag!? I've hunted that area quite a bit, both rifle and smokepole (214M). There are generally a lot of elk in there . . . but, one of my partners is hunting in that area (weekends only) with his son-in-law now (214M) and, as of last Saturday, they had only seen one . . . .

Why don't you e-mail me with some more detail re what you have in mind, e.g., nature of your disability and how mobile you are, ability or plans re "critter recovery" once it's down, are you hunting with a party, etc. Then, I'll give that some thought in conjunction with my knowledge of the area and maybe come up with some recommendations for you . . . perhaps even some maps. I've hunted both the Dec muzzeloader and the Jan cow in the NE trask. The advice I would give you is that the animals can be hearded up. Jan of '01 I hunted for 4-5 days and only saw glimpses of a couple cow/calf pairs. One day, I ran across a heard of probably 50 or more and had my choice of animals. In general terms, hunting around the edges of the Stimpson land from the Hwy-6 side has been our focus. If there's snow it obviously make seeing them and their tracks very easy.

There is usually allot of elk around that area. In my experience, they don't seem to spook to much with vehicles as they are used to the Browns/Rodgers camp OHV areas and I think they get somewhat used to the sound of traffic.
