We did the spike-only hunt this year, with no success. The hard part is making sure that your target is a spike. We saw a couple of bulls, but in the timber you couldn't verify that there was only spikes. we did okay the year before with first season tags, but it was any bull. One draw back to this area, is by the time spike-only season starts, there has been

eer season, followed by 800 cow tags a week later, followed by 1700 any bull tags a week after that. You then add 1800 spike-only hunters, and the animals are pretty skitish. I did get a bear, but no elk.
