After the Taki II discussion, I thought I'd dig this one up. You know the whale watching / bird watching charter in Newport, the Discovery / Marine Dicovery Tours? That used to be called the 'Merry Jane', and back in 1986 it broached (nearly capsizing) at the entrance to Bodega Bay CA, killing 9 people. A bunch of lessons from that one, if you can stand to read the whole report.

Most noteworthy lesson: know which way the current is pushing you when you approach a bar (he was being set sideways & missed the narrow channel). Also issues with getting lifesaving equipmentinto the water, because of so much FISHING GEAR in the way.
